Windshield Replacement

For those who have replaced a windshield on this model, please advise if it is required/recommended to replace the molding at the top of the windshield. The counterperson at the my local Mini dealership says it is, but that was the first time I had heard that.

Thanks.

Our 02 had the windshield changed out 3 times - SAFELITE each time - all original trim was reused each time and when traded in recently just shy of 96,000 miles nothing had ever come loose despite many many hours on the highway .... (they DID replace trim on another car when they said they felt they might have damaged the clips holding the trim .... and installed new OEM parts)

There may be a reason they feel the molding needs to be replaced but on the other hand I find that few dealerships do glass anyway ... they call in a subcontractor who specializes in glass. IMHO you are better off to go to a glass specialist yourself.

My insurance covers glass (this is a comprehensive issue) and the company automatically refers glass claims to SAFELITE. They do replacements in my driveway or the parking lot at work.

Oh .... and cuz I live in FL, they can't charge a deductable for front glass - safety issue - a law we live with!
