door lock problem, not seen in existing forums

let my son drive my MINI for one day and he's screwed it up. I've found similar issues in other posts, but not exactly what's happening with me....

'03 S.... he was showing off all the central door-locking features to his friends, like being able to roll down the windows and open the sunroof with the buttons on the key...

somehow, now, when you try to lock or unlock the car using the buttons on the key, everything works but the driver's lock... still works fine using the switch on the lower part of the dash/console, where the window switches are, but won't lock or unlock using the buttons on the key. also works fine by sticking the key in the door.

what did he do? seems like too much of a coincidence for this door lock/actuator/whatever to break at the same time I let my son have the car for a day.

is this something that I can re-program? dealer re-program?

thanks

Not sure but sort sounds like a programming fix which needs to be done by MINI. As long as it works by the panel switch at least you know the $500.00 actuator in the door is working So that's a good thing.

Friend of mine had his door locks re-programmed by MINI so when he turned off the ignition and removed the key, all doors and hatch automatically unlocked....

that sounds like a beneficial reprogram. might have to look into it.

Anytime I don't have to spend $500, it's a good thing. Thanks for the input. I'll run by the dealer and see what they can tell me.

yea sounds like a programming issue. when i press my unlock button my car won't unlock sometimes and i have to put the key in the door to actually unlock it. i took the key apart and noticed that when i click the LOCK button (my lock button works), a little red light flashes which basically tells you that everything is working. but then i tried pressing the unlock button and sometimes it'll flash red, and sometimes nothing will happen. i'm going to have to cold solder it when i get the chance because i think the two metal pieces for the unlock button aren't in good enough contact.
