R50/53 most overdone color scheme
I've only seen Chili Red/White, Sliver/Black, and Liquid Yellow/White MINI's on the road so far.... I'm waiting to finally see one that looks like mine will (Indi Blue/White w/bonnet stripes).
Anyone ever see a Velvet Red/Black MINI? I thought that might be a cool combination to go for, but opted for the Indi Blue/White instead. Still not too late to change my mind though

Yes a velvet red/black passed me the other day on Kenilworth drive! It looked pretty sharp! That is a tough call between the two...I have always LOVE the indie blue! I think you made a great choice!
>>I drive a BRG/BLK Cooper. I haven't seen this color combo on another yet- though I did happen to see it on an X-Box racing game in Costco!
That was my first choice and my wife wanted the ib/blk, since that was my second choice we area going with that.
Did you get the black hood stripes with the BRG/BLK? Our dealer said that the black stripes on the Indi blue had white pin stripes along the edge and I have never seen or heard of it before?
Anyone else have white edging on the black stripes?

There are about 100-150 MINIs on the road in the Seattle-Tacoma area and I've seen about ten of them. They were all DS/W, LY/W, BRG/W, Black/Black, or IBlue/W. Saw a great Pepper White/black roof Cooper at the dealer last weekend. The one color I haven't seen personally, driving around or at the dealer, is the one I think I want: Velvet Red/white roof/white wheels.
BTW, the dealer told me Silk Green IS INDEED being discontinued for '03. They showed me the new Gold paint on a .gif they had on a computer monitor (eehhh,). What kind of a blue is Candy Blue? The dealer didn't mention that.
MINIUSA sales literature still shows the Silk Green as being offered for the 2003 model year, along with the new Solid Gold and Candy Blue colors.
Either, the literature is wrong or your dealer is making this up...

Most of these were seen in the back lot of my BMW dealership or on the MINI salesfloor at Motorwerks in Minnesota. As you can see, I have seen very few body colored roofs. Also, IMHO, the Indi Blue and Velvet Red are too dark to have black bonnet stripes - not enough contrast.
When I was at the dealership yesterday I saw about 15 S's. All of them were either CR, DS, or PS. Not one Liquid Yellow in the whole bunch. Which makes me very happy because I want to be as unique as possible.

In San Francisco, I've seen mostly CR/W, IB/W, BRG/W, PS/B, 1 LY/W and only 1 DS/W!! I ordered Velvet Red/White (expected in November), but have NEVER seen one around here, so hopefully I'll be unique!!
I personally prefer the contrasting roofs because I think it stands out more and is more Classic MINI-esque! The matching roof and body doesn't catch my eye as readily!

>>all the colors on the minis I have seen look terrific....I'm interested to see what >>they add for next year, especially with some nicer interior looks...cheers
Agreed! I'll say that I haven't seen a color on a mini that i have disliked! (aside from the Gold planned for the 2003's! It's alright... but i'm not too fond of it!)
You also have to figure though...... there aren't too many colors to choose from! I mean, there's enough of a variety to give everyone what they want, but not enough so that everyone is going to have a different color mini! Which is where the personalization comes in!! Exterior color is such a small percentage of what makes the mini's unique to their owners!!! For example.... at the most recent mini meet i attended one guy had his pure silver and black roof ( i believe?!) that he calls the beast..... reason being is because he's got two decals one running down each side of his mini of a dinosaur-like beast "tearing" through the doors of his car! He also had an Austin Powers Mini-Me bobble head sitting on his dash! I didn't get a good shot of the mini me on the dash, but here's the side!

(it's the first one! top left!)
It looks better in person! But basically it's all about the person and how the car reflects that!! When i was at the meet, and I was meeting forum members in person for the first time.... their minis looked different with each of their personalities.... Its probably just the way i perceived them.... but i met minicoopersgirl and the silver color of her "olivia" seemed different than the others.... and limeydc's electric blue had a difference to it as well!! This, I feel, is the reason why i don't think that any color scheme could be overused.... because even if there are 15 chili red/white roofed minis in a line...... and i know each of the owners personally, and i know their personalities.... I'll see each car in a different way!! But that's just me!

No, just the solid color. What I like about the combination is that the black deepens my perception of the BRG. Also, there is the continuity with the black trim.
i thought my color combination would be more common, but i haven't come across another black/white yet. nice classic mini look. i know, black cars are deadly to keep dust-free, but it's so sharp when clean!
I tried to be different when I ordered My MINI and went with the DS/DS no stripes, which my dealer said had not been ordered through them yet. But since I took delivery I have seen another one just like her driving around. There are about 20 MINI's here that I have seen so far. I wanted indy blue or BRG but I was told in June that neither were available, the green was on hold due to production problems and the Indy wasn't available on the S. So D/S it was.
I want to do some checkered black or P/S racing stripes and thinking about getting the roof painted in P/S for contrast. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I PREFERRED THE SILVER/BLACK TOP WHEN WE WERE FIRST LOOKING. MY WIFE LIKED THE VELVET RED/BLACK. WE HAD NOT SEEN ONE "LIVE" BUT DECIDED TO GO FOR HER CHOCE. WE HAVE YET TO SEE ANOTHER ONE IN THE CINCINNATI AREA. SHE WAS RIGHT!!!! SINCE THEY'RE DARK COLORS, THE CHROME BUMPERS AND RALLY LIGHTS HELP!!! ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS CAR.
BY THE WAY, MY WIFE IS NOW IN GERMANY DOING BUSINESS AT BMW. SHE HAS SEEN LOTS AND LOTS OF MINIS THERE. EVIDENTLY BMW EMPLOYEES CAN SIGN UP TO TEST DRIVE NEW BMW PRODUCTS AND THERE IS A LONG LIST TO TEST THE MINI!!!!

A important factor in color choice, in my opinion, is the sun roof... I love the look of a sunroof on the white roof. I originally was planning on a white roof with black checkers, but I fell in love with the sunroof, both because you can open it (and my previous vehicle was a Jeep Wrangler, so I got used to the wind), and also because you get that black/white look.
I have a very unique color combo coming in next month. Althought, GREATGRO and others will give me more s*#t, it is Liquid Yellow with a Lapis interior. Why? you might ask. For the one reason that everyone is posting for...all the other colors are over-used. I have the very first LY/Lapis S coming to AZ and I'm happy about it, even though I would love a DS or a CR, I have a need to be different. Also, I'm a guy and not a girl as someone earlier had thought. If you have further questions come to an AZ meet in the future and look for the "girlie" car with the not so "girlie-man" standing proud next to it and you will have found me. Note: There may be a couple of cute girls hanging around as well, but don't feel intimidated, come on up and say "hello".

I realize that perhaps having a white roof is status quo to most Mini owners, but when you put it on the road with just other cars in general, to me having a 2-tone color car is special! Most of the others I see are all solid colors.
And to me red is the most common color on cars period. It's just a sporty color. I can't think of any car maker what doesn't offer a car in red, can you?
For me, when I see the Mini as one solid color (having the roof match the body) it makes it look more like a shrunken SUV. By having a two-tone look, it gives it more well ..... attitude? To me it looks kinda like a car wearing a little crown on top.

Although becoming very common, Chili Red with white roof is still a very, very nice combo...it turns heads!.
Maybe I am not 100% fond of solid color MINIs but I have to tell you...the other day I saw a solid Liquid Yellow MCS with dark tints and looked stunning!
If I were to get a second MINI and wanted to make it solid this time around, my only 2 colors of choice would either be Chili Red or Liquid Yellow. To my eye, solid metallic colors don't look as good as the non-metallic finishes when going all solid.
But yeah, the car tends to look taller when the roof color matches the rest of the car.

Way too common.
I would like to see the black top and black stripes on the Chili Red.

The three colors I see the most on an MCS are:
IB/W
DS/W
EB/W
I was torn betwwen IB and CR. So I decided to go with CR/W. There was already an IB/W and EB/W MCS's in my parking lot at work. Believe it or not the only CR/W I had seen around this part of North Eastern New Jersey were base Mini's, never saw a CR/W MCS so that's what I got. I have see one or two since I got mine. I order mine with Chrome Mirrors the Front Aero Bumper, Bonnet Stripes and White tailights so mine would look different.

The best colors for a mini are of course about personal preference. I believe they have to do with the enviornment in which the car most often appears. For example, I believe that for driveing down the coast line highway on a sunny summer day CR/W are most perferable. Whereas, for driveing on an inner city florecently lit street the darker colors fit better. When you think about your favorit colors do you see yourself from outside the vehicle looking in? Because, when you are driving you really see very little of the outside colors.
OK, back to your original thread topic of "most overdone color scheme".
Here in AZ, most of the MINIs I've seen the most of are either Dark Silver or British Racing Green. Most of the DS have white tops. Most of the BRGs have a black top. EB and CR are rare color choices here in the Valley of the Sun.
