R50/53 Had my car five days, and it thinks it's a helicopter
That's right-it has a guard! I can stick my finger right into the blades on mine! Looks like you dodged a bullet. I don't know of a way to check to see if it works, except it should run when the radiator fan kicks on. If it's the fan I think it is, it sounds like a loud hair dryer when it runs. I plan to have it checked whenever I have a service that requires a lift. You can also check to see that it turns freely if you can get to the blades.

Heads-up puppyknuckles...
The P/S pump fan can die or malfunction for a number of reasons w/o warning on the instrumental panel. The same is true for the radiator fan's Low Speed, which restricts the engine's operating coolant temperature and A/C operation. Your A/C will blow only warm air until the radiator's Hi Speed fan kicks in. Both of these problems can lead to costly repairs.
I find this very lacking for a car designed by BMW.

I got my Moss fan guard in the mail today. It installs in 4 steps.
Step 4 is "Enjoy".
It's a sweet piece of stainless bling, but it's located under the car facing the road.
Someone's being funny!

I should've tried spinning the blade - dang I forgot to try that...
Maybe they're referring to enjoying the peace of mind you'll have knowing that a plastic bag won't get sucked into your PS fan. For $30 or so a trick stainless guard sounds just right.
