I need brakes

My mini needs front brakes and rotors. I was thinking about the JCW JCW Drilled and Slotted Rotors and either the Hawk HPS or the Hawk HP Plus sport. I am going to try to change these my self. Wish me luck.

Unless there is a nice person here who wants to help a fellow mini owner. How about a break upgrade party!

well im in ohio but, it'll be a piece of cake. These brakes are simple to change, If theyre anything similar to my 09... I assume the logistics are very similar.

I was freaked out before i took a rim off to see its just a few simple bolts and the pads just snap in and out

JCW brakes?

I suppose the first order of business would be to find out if you have JCW brakes on your car. Your sig doesn't indicate this. The Jcw brakes come with a different set of calipers and larger rotors. Secondly the JCW rotors on the 07 to 09's have larger bolt holes in them thus I wonder how they will work on your car.

well in that case you can get drilled/slotted, but you cant go with bigger JCW ones, unless you swap calipers. Im guessing youd need the mounting brackets for new calipers too.

Be AWARE... the removal of the Torx bolt that holds on each rotor can be a real pain in the *** - especially if your MINI is older. Often times, the bolt heads will SHEAR OFF... make sure to buy four new Torx bolts (and have anti-sieze lube ready for the new ones) from your MINI dealer and then be prepared to drill out the old screw bodies when the heads shear off... If it wasn't for that problem, changing the rotors and pads is rather simple.

Another NOTE: You may or may not be aware of this: the rear INBOARD pads are held in place by three clips which seat in a groove on the caliper piston. Make sure the new inboard pads' clips SNAP onto that groove when you install them. It's a little tricky getting the third clip to seat but once it does, you'll be all set. With the pad mounted onto the piston, it will retract properly when you release the brakes.

Third NOTE: You will probably need a caliper piston compression tool for the MINI... http://www.harborfreight.com carries these.... in order to compress the rear pistons, it must be also rotated simultaneously. The Harbor Freight tool will do this for you easily. Costs about $30.00 from what I recall.

Do a search here on NAM for any questions you have regarding brakes... it's all been covered for the most part.

GOOD LUCK!
