So the dealer was assuming a 3,000 mile interval. That is really 'old school'. If they used 5-30W synthetic oil, that is a bit extreme, I would pass. I am ****-retentive, but I go 5,000 miles.

2006 transmission flush

I have 22,000 miles; dealer suggests Inspection 1 and transmission flush for $520, which seems a tad high?

Also wants $620 to replace oil pan gasket. Could this be done at another service place? I plan to shop around . . .

Thanks!

But I have also heard on this forum that some people change it every 30,000 miles or so, regardless of what the service interval display shows. The salesperson who sold me the car is even convinced that it never has to be changed because the transmission is sealed. My mini has 33,000 on it now. I wish Mini was a bit more clear on this. Any advice?

Around 30K. I would go as close to that number as possible out of fear of fluid breakdown. I own a CVT and I will be taking the 150 mile drive from Ft Wayne to Indianapolis in January to have the fluid flushed! It's gonna cost me about 400 dollars for just that service, but I don't trust anybody but a MINI Master Tech to do it. I wouldn't mess around when dealing with the CVT. I love mine and will do everything I can to keep it running ship shape.

I'd change the fuel filter every 100k miles. Will keep the fuel pump happy. And you can do it yourself in less than 30 minutes (YMMV depending on your skill with hand tools.)

When you were getting Free Oil changes by the Dealerships they would want you to go about 10K miles between Oil Changes....

Oil manufacturers tend to recommend as soon as 3K miles...

I tend to have always gone with 6K miles.

I have included My document I have put together a while back... MINI Cooper Services Explained

And I added Mini Cooper Condition Based Service Interval Schedule this is based on the newer cars

Motor on!
