My R50 recently turned 98k with most of them highway driving.
I have noticed that when I reverse my car the car shutters, also when I start off in 1st gear I get the same occurrence, but on as bad.

I'm wondering if it's my driving abilities or does the clutch need to be replaced?

Does anyone know of a local (01570) reputable garage that has experience with Mini repairs?

If so the clutch kit and flywheel may need replacement. However, take the car to a reputable independent MINI mechanic and let him make that determination.

 

Yes, it's the original clutch.

I am efforting quotes from local clutch shops and so far I have quotes from $950 to $1,300. I agree that diagnosing the clutch is the 1st order and I'm looking to the wisdom of this site for a reputable MINI mechanic in the central MA area.
