R50/53 oil canister wont come off

oil canister wont come off

oil canister wont budge.
I'm in the middle of an oil change and I can't get it off.
any ideas?

1/2" drive; slow, steady pressure. You're pushing against the 0-ring, which may have dried out a bit.

too late now, but always *begin* with the oil canister (kind of like making sure you can get the tranny fill plug loose before taking out the drain plug)

Definitely 1/2" drive socket - and a long handled rachet or breaker bar. Always lube the threads and the o-ring when putting the filter cap back on too.

Hopefully it was not cross-threaded last time it was put on. If you do not have a breaker bar, you can slip a lenght of pipe over the rachet handle to provide more leverage.

I had to tap the breaker bar with a hammer and dowl to get it to break loose.

Magilla Gorilla must have done the previous oil change...
