Headlamp Replacement

My passenger-side headlamp burned out on my 2002 Cooper. I purchased a bulb from the local autoparts store, and went to replace it, but I can't figure out how to remove the bulb from the holder - it's somewhat awkwardly placed. Can anybody give me any tips?

I take it you have the non-xenon type headlights. That being the case, I assume changing them is like changing the high beam on the xenon headlights. There is a circular rubber hatch that pops off giving access to the bulb. Unplug the bulb, then move the shiny containment wire to the side allowing the bulb to slide out.

Yep, I was able to find the rubber hatch, and was working to get the wires undone, but there is the black attachment that holds the power wires to the bulb - It appears as though I have to get that off first. It might be the way that it was put on in the first place. I'll give it another go tonight and see if I can get that. Essentially, I'm having trouble getting that shiny wire off...

I forget how it goes off. It might have a clasp design on one end of it, or it might just slide off like an old jar lid wire.

I think there's a clasp, I was able to get part of it off.

Thanks!

Okay, I was able to change the bulb!

BUT:

It didn't go on, at least on low beams. The bulb works the same as it did before, but it seems like there might be a problem with the low setting. Any further tips?

I'm not sure what the case is. When I replaced my high beam/daytime running lights (same bulb) they were plug and play, so to speak. My xenons are in great shape and should last eons.
