I purchased the MINI Extended service contract ($1,400) that covers every service item (Brake pads, rotors, clutch, oil changes, fluids, etc) until the car is 6 years or 100K miles whichever occurs first. So my R53 will continue to see the dealer until either limitation (Time or mileage) is met.
For other stuff not covered by the MINI extension, I have an excellent local independent (3 time MINI owner/tracker/auto X champ) that is considered to be the defacto guru when it comes to these cars (and any car for that matter).
