I had the 34.0 software installed Friday. I have the CVT and I get off the line faster and the response is better. I have driven over 200 miles since Friday and I am totally happy again. Even backing up is less jerly. The shifting is better, SD has more pull.

I am glad they upgraded the software.

Also, I have been running the A/C and do not notice any changes.

>>I have the CVT, and have to agree its not that great. It bucks and lurchs.....also the power on it is horrible. If you dare have the AC or if you have more than one person in it, the car is sluggish as all hell. If I had to do it again I would get the MCS. Driven in a few of them, and that thing has no problem getting to speed.

Well sorry. You got a "bad car". Mine works, yours doesn't.

'Nuff said.

PS: I have had 4 people in the car, A/C full blown, absolutely no problems. Pulls away like a champ and smooth to boot.

Version 34.0? are you sure? I taught 34.0 did not apply to the MINI at all (It only had updates for other BMW models). Can you please be more specific as to what exact version of the software you were given? Maybe 34.1 or 34.2???

Yeah and you know what? Your a liar. You go around telling everyone you had a problem free car, meanwhile you have three pages of you WHINING on MINI2 about how your car is shuddering and lurching and how your gunna bring a lawsuit if they dont fix your car. Now that the software fixed your problem, you dash into every post about how your car has never had any problems. I worked at a MINI dealership and we literally had CVTs come back the next day after delivery with problems. I am offering the guy the other side of the story so he can make a more educated decision. Dont make personal attacks on me, and keep your mouth shut. It has nothing to do with the topic.

I am not going to give you the "pleasure" of lowering myself to your "level".

add my vote for the CVT without passing judgement on the 5 or 6 speeds. each drivetrain combo has it's own personality along with positives and negatives. buy the one that feels right for YOUR needs and don't look back!

let's motor!

Actually you were the FIRST one to make an attack on ME. Re-read your post.

I am not so sure if that was enough 'cause' to call me a"liar" and to keep my mouth "shut" in a public message board. How daring. Is that the way you treated your customers??? I guess you also "lied" to them when you sold them all those defective new MINIs??? Wow, maybe you need to look into your own eye before judging your neighboor's...

I'll let Mark handle this from this point forward. After this post you will not receive anymore replies from me. As far as I am concerned you don't "exist" in this forum nor in MINI2.

Now I am beginning to understand why L.MINI abandoned MCO (And probably other fine posters as well as we speak).

Actually I told all my customers the truth and let them make thier own decisions. I told them there was stalling and bucking, but that not all cars had it. Eventually I had so many customers returning that I decided to quit because the problems were too much to handle. Also you ADDRESSED ME in this post first. I was posting to inform another member about MY experience with the CVT, just as you are entitled to your opinion so am I. I dont see the reason for you to have directly addressed me in this thread in the first place.

>>There must have been something really wrong with your car, because the A/C doesn't affect the performance of my Cooper CVT. My giess is that you had an older version of the DME software. When I got 33.2 some of the "A/C related" performance issues went away. I live in South Florida where today's temp is over 92F+ and at least 85% humidity factor. Again no problems.

sorry hun, had latest software.

ok aside from all stabs at each other. I am also considering the CVT but unsure amd would like opinions from both sides. I live in NYC and wondered for of you that don't like the CVT, if you live an urban environment with traffic 24/7 and parking space rare(getting the mini would open a new world of parking for me fitting is spaces i couldn't before). If i lived in the suburbs i would definitely get the S but being in the city I figured that the CVT would make more sense. I just wanted to ask the where abouts of all those who dislike the CVT. If you do live in a metropolitan area, if you can help me make up my mind by telling me where and why you have either stick or the CVT. You feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

i live in NYC... can be quite annoying in traffic to have stick but other than that i wouldnt go back to the CVT for anything...
and esp in a city like NYC you can use the manual to your advantage and to save on gas..... think about it..

The mileage ratings for the MC CVT and for the MCS are about the same. My daily driver is a MCS and I take it into the city and do rush hour traffic and get about 24-25 mpg and if I do mixed driving with some urban and some highway I can get about 28 mpg. Shifting in traffic and rush hour isn't hard to do for me, just use first gear and if rolling then second. Most of it is just creeping.

CVT I have driven in city urban areas- works just fine in auto mode and in manual shift mode. Very easy to use, maybe not super quick but with congestion it isn't bad at all. Out on the highway CVT works great and if you want to shift it is OK as well. Doesn't have super fast passing power. Pretty basic power.

Bottomline. If you are skilled at shifting then it doesn't matter. CVT or manual will work in city or suburban areas. If you don't know how to manual shift then the CVT would be easier and you still need to learn the manual shift mode. I drove a manual 5 speed on the wrong side of the road in urban cities of the UK this summer and it was fine- just adjust a little and go. Some people don't like that much activity though.

Yep, this is a great example of what happens when good people like Lmini etc. stop posting and people filled with rage take their place.

Very, very sad!

Talking with the lead tech it is 34.0, he said it was tested in FL and they said it was good. All my paperwork states it is 34.0. The tech said it fixes some of the issues with the CVT. Sorry that is all I have.

I have a CVT and live just outside Toronto. The traffic is brutal on the 401 every
morning so the CVT is perfect. It takes time getting used to it because you really don't feel any shifting.

For zipping around the city, I prefered the ease of the CVT over the stick. I drove the S, and frankly thought the CVT was the more enjoyable to operate. Sure, it has less power than the 6 speed S ... but I wasn't convinced the tradeoff was worth it. And believe me, I love performance above all. However, my other car has more than twice the power to weight ratio of an S, so I'd need to see a big difference between the CVT and S to overcome the convenience factor in Washington DC traffic. That said, if this was my only car I would have went with the S.

27,000 miles in 14 months with my CVT. I have version 34 software. I have been to the dealer a few times, but nothing too troublesome. CVT driving does take a little getting used to, but once you have things figured out (how to anticipate pulling out into traffic, how to avoid lurching, etc.) The CVT is a more mild car than an MCS. I definately enjoy stomping on the gas and hearing the engine roar at 5500 rpms continuously (try that Mr. S! )

I suggest you find a CVT owner in your area and go for a drive with them. The experience of a seasoned driver will definately help you make your decision. Happy Motoring!!!
