R50/53 performance chip?
performance chip?
anyone running one.....i am very skeptical of these parts. they advertise great hp gains and gas mileage. has anyone heard of the unichip one.....it is like $700....is it worth it..... any help would be great.....please list the one you are running and what u think of it...thanks
It's a different world now...
there are two families, piggy-back computers (like the UniChip) and firmware uploads (like DimSport, EvoTech and a few others).
There are tons of posts about all of them, so you might want to do some reading on them.
Best of all worlds is a custom tune.

The Unichip is WAY overpriced. I bought a Shark Injector Tuner from minimania.com and used if for 6 months or so but I just took it off. I did have the car run on the dyno with a 15% pulley, full exhaust, and AFe cold air intake and the power curves were pretty smoothe. The Shark sells for about $400 and is easily removable and done at home. Another option for a fairly basically modded car (just the bolt ons) would include the GIAC tune which costs $325, is done at a dealer (see giacusa.com), and produces slightly better results than the Shark. Best is to wait for Jan from RMW tuning to come somewhere close by (I'm driving 5 and a half hours to see him) and have him tune your car on the dyno. I guess its ganna cost me about $500 for the tune and the dyno time. His tune is supposed to be the best. I've been researching and contemplating what to do for weeks now and the RMW is my choice. Hope that helps.
