My 03 MCS died shortly after i bought it :( The dealer refused to do anything because they said that year car wasnt covered by their warranty WTF. Broken piston and a broken camshaft Sigh ... i drove the car a month and a half and has sat longer . This is a new year and my car is being resurrected and coming back with a vengeance .

Dropped in a replacement motor with half the miles , New forged pistons and cams, new stage 2 clutch, and all my original bolt ons. i cant wait till shes out of the surgery room.

Secret services Auto would build me a complete beast for 11k would of been nice

I spent > $3800 in mods on a BMW E30 coupe, just to get it to feel right on the road. My MINI rolled off the dealer pre-owned lot and feels just as good, if not better, and is 100% stock. LOL

I'm keeping this R53 4-EVER!!
I completely agree....I have a BMW that I use for work, but the MINI is so engaging, and a real charmer. I appreciate both cars so much, but there is something a bit special about the MINI. We've been through a lot together, but I'm so happy for the ride! I hope you enjoy every mile!!!!

Bought my '02 MSC JCW the last Sept. and it's the most fun I've had since, well...since I started driving and I've been at it for a long time and owned more cars than I can remember. My only real complaint has been those useless sunvisors. Best 11k I ever spent. I can't wait to take down to the Dragon.

Forever

I plan on keeping mine until the day I die. It is my first car, I will keep it in the family and repair it as time goes on... but I agree Parts will be hard to find in the future, so think ahead.

I bought my high mileage mini at 126k, less than a month, i have already put 2500 miles on it.. haha. I will drive this car into the 200k within 2 years. I am projecting about 160k miles by the end of the year. I hope it last as long as my honda.

I agree, the sun visors are sort of small. So I just leave a pair of sunglasses in the MINI....

Well I am considering it. I love the car but kind of resent the fact I have to have an $800 repair after two weeks of ownership and 38,000 miles on the car.

I had to put a new Getrag trans in my '03 last summer (bad input shaft bearing), at about 49k, after nine months of ownership (bought with 36k). Thank goodness I bought a warrantee with it! Total out of pocket was only $200, plus the cost of the new clutch I had 'em put while the trans was out....

Hopefully anything else major will happen either before I hit 72k miles or wait a long, long time....

Still, the MINI stands head and shoulders above pretty much every other car I've ever owned in the fun-to-drive category....

Good luck with yours--I hope that's your only hiccup for a long time!

C ya,
Dutch

thanks Joe! I had a my mechanic look at the car before I bought it 3 weeks ago and he said it looked great. The mechanic who is working on my car now said the same thing. They both think this is an isolated incident.

I would like the car to last me thru law school and beyond.

My '02 had 158K miles, and got rear ended last month. Insurance said it was totalled, so I bought a 2011. Kinda wish I had kept the '02, because once I replaced the transmission at 100K it was running great. But the 2011 will probably be less trouble to maintain. The 02 had a lot of issues early on.

I ordered El Kabong in September '05, picked him up in November '05 and have loved every minute. I can't believe it's been over 5 years. I only have about 40000 on the clock, so I'm thinking he'll be here for a lot more years. My daughter is already making suggestions for me to get a new MINI in a couple years and then she will lovingly take over the care and feeding of El Kabong. My husband ordered a Countryman yesterday, so we continue...

My 2006 has 35,000km on it so it should go for awhile! I'd like to trade it in for an mcs but I bought a refundable warranty that I'd lose if I traded it in, so I'll probably keep it for 4 years to get my 3k back.

Well, I spoke too soon I guess. My beloved El Kabong was totaled Friday night. We were on our way home from Nashville(picking up a new puppy!) and some idiot crossed the center line came over 2 lanes and totaled El Kabong. I'm currently in the indecisive phase, buy a new one or search for another '06...

I am so sorry to hear about that BoCRon. I have an '06 and bought it a little over a month ago. I test drove the R55 and R56 but I fell in love with the R53. I say hold out and search for another '06.

Really sorry to hear about El, but happy to know that you and yours are safe. Poor El, what a great MINI.

I probably will be buried in my '05 R53 bought new and totally paid off! At the end of my life, the car will probably been rebodied and full of body putty. But oh well!
