So I'm watching the track of hurricane Isabelle along with the rest of you east coasters. Here in Jersey, looks like getting in to work on Friday could be "interesting" to say the least.

Hmmm... which car has more ground clearance, a MCS or an M3. Maybe I sold the Passat too soon.

Hey Jerseygirl,

There is a secondary reason why your Mini has 6 airbags. Don't worry, they are taught to swim and have lifevests.

P.S. Did you get my private post about the "eyes"?

Do a search on MINI's and standing water. I wouldn't drive my car near an unknown puddle after reports of engines dying from water in the intake. Seems to affect the Cooper more from what I remember. In any event , looks like a really soggy end of the week here.

Oh yeah, forgot all about those. Should be good for floating through any deep puddles.

Best of luck to all of you miniacs on the east coast!!! Just stay out of the water. Seal up your garage with your Mini safe inside... and take care of yourself and loved ones too! God speed.

one of the appropriate times to drive an SUV...in a foot of water!

I remember the old advertisement for VW's in the 60's showing one floating on water...National Lampoon did a spoof and showed a similar pic with the caption "If Ted Kennedy drove one of these, he'd be president today!"

and before you feel like flaming today...lighten up...National Lampoon was a bastion of humor once you graduated from MAD magazine! Long live Mr. Gaines!

Hey, maybe MINI should hold off on the convertible and concentrate on the MINI "Aquada". Can somebody Photoshop this, just for laughs?

being that there are two "vents" in the trunk, i highly doubt it.

My apt is on a narrow strip of land with the beach on one side and a lagoon on the other... its going to be a fun one. Good luck!

cheese - i hope you're not in a ground floor apartment. anyway you can move you're car to a location that is less prone to flooding? my wife and I lost both our cars during Floyd in 1999...I heard the words "total loss" a bit too many times.

I'm not concerned about the flooding in my neighborhood. I am however concerned about the tree that I park under.

Hey Donna, you got garage space for another car?

ATTENTION, ATTENTION

To all mini owners that are experiencing major problems with your cars that have not or cannot be resolved. Please review your vehicle insurace policy to confirm that flood damage is covered. If flood damage is covered immediately transport your mini to the outer banks of North Carolina and park on the Atlantic side of the island, preferable in a low lying area. Friday morning report that your mini was totaled by some crazy chic named Isabel.

Just a thought, but this might be the time to take public transit if you have it close by. The MINI is only good for about one foot of water. Yep, I would park the MINI and take the bus if at all possible. Good luck!!!

A foot?!?!? I would think you'd have serious problems with the car in far less water than that. Of course I have no intention of testing this theory out.

Yes, my manual says to limit standing water to one foot and drive very slow like walking speed. If you splash the water it may enter the air intake and get sucked into the engine causing hydrolock and MAJOR damage like a rod crashing a fist sized hole through your block- Ouch! Not worth the pleasure of the splash.

So be careful out there, sometimes it looks clear or minimal but then a flash flood condition occurs and an intersection or small crossing becomes flooded.

Oh Yes and MINIs do float well...
In zero gravity.

But they also sink well and are generally not amphibious. Yet.

And this BMW Isetta microcar is light enough to float

Minihune, thanks for the pic of the Isetta. I had a good friend some year's back that had one in very good condition.

Hey people think that the MINI is small, the Isetta is micro small.

Berst Wishes and some luck to Mini friends on the Easterly coast. We'll all have our turns with whatever nature throws at our regions too -- tornados in my case.

Jerseygirl, I sent you another private message so if you didn't get it your mailbox must be having problems (or me). Anyway, Yes, I'd like your extra "eyes". Those who didn't read that thread should know this is not like it sounds.

Again, hope you all can stay reasonably dry.

I lived in West Palm Beach when Andrew hit, so huricane-shmuricane, no big deal. Just remember to board up your windows, a treet hit our neighbors house, and about 10 miles away there was nothing!
