Snd... sucks about the car, however it sounds like you'll be back behind the wheel soon....

Kinda reminds me of the crash I say yesterday on the CT Turnpike in Milford. Some twit in an Accord decides at the last minute to cut over from the center lane to make an exit just 20 feet in front of him. The trouble was there was a pickup pulling a car trailer next to him. The Accord managed to miss the truck but nailed the trailer, the trailer peeled the bumper off the car. The pickup driver, well he didn't pull over to see what happened until he got about a 1/2 mile down the road.

That Accord driver probably did a few hundred or so bucks damage to his car just for being a moron!

Glad no one was hurt, cars fix easier than people. Looks like a fairly easy fix on the car, just body work (i hope). Having said that, I think it should be mentioned that we as mini owners and drivers need to keep in mind that our cars will out stop most anything on the road. If we slam on the brakes without care we will be the idiotic, stupid, moronic, assinine, ........ driver who causes accidents for others and being that they're cars are not as maneuverable as ours we will get rearended. Just be careful folks, I think MINIHUNE said it best "drive defensive".

Very good point Raftos! We do need to remember that our MINI's can outmaneuver and stop much quickly than the average vehicle out there and that can actually put us at risk of being slammed by the idiot trailing too close behind.

I will make a point to try to remember that the ordinary car behind me cannot stop as quickly as I can.

Really sorry to hear about it.

We just got our's back from the body shop last week ... rear end damage from a tractor trailer and front end damage from a deer (all within a 2 week period)

I'm glad to say that she is as good as new ... no signs of damage.

Find a good body shop and you'll feel much better.

Kev

I picked up the BLU MENE Tuesday afternoon from the repair shop and after driving it yesterday on a nice road test, I’m happy to say it feels so good to be behind the wheel of a truly great handling car once again.

The damage was more extensive than first estimated, but that’s understandable. A visual look for damage will not reveal the hidden things that are found once the parts start coming off. Total damage was just short of $4500.

The repair shop did a superb job. Not only did they fix the area of the bonnet that was damaged, but every nick, ding and scratch from the last year of road abuse. They also painted not only the bonnet, but the doors as well. It looks show room new. The paint match is perfect. They even threw in a big bottle of touch-up paint.

I’ve found only one small problem, which I have an appointment next week for them to look at. The outside air temperature sensor for the OBC was ripped off with the lower grill in the accident. It has been replaced, but does not function. Other than that my BLU MENE is awesome again.

Having my MCS back does not change the fact I will have to pay closer attention to my driving and others around me. My accident was due to the complacency of day-to-day driving. I pride myself on being a defensive driver. However routine the driving may seem, always be aware of what may happen. I paid a very high price for the lesson and I’m sure my insurance will reflect that soon.

Please be careful out there.

sndwave,
Thanks for the follow up post and warning to be more aware when driving. Just the smallest of adjustments can mean a big difference. A few weeks ago I was off to an autocross sunday morning and driving easy and I was the first one into an intersection and going slow out of first gear less than 1-2 seconds in the intersection when out of nowhere a van comes barreling through just a few feet in front of me, I don't see him and I don't have time even to hit the brakes. But because I was going so slow he made it past me and I avoid totaling my car and getting killed. He was going maybe 40 in a 25 zone and making a red light crossing. I don't think he was in the intersection when the light turned red. He ran the red. It all happened too fast. Moral of the story, you have to looking for trouble all the time and be very careful because the accident avoided is the best accident not to be in.

The other thing is with a very fast and powerful car like the MINI, you the driver are always in control of what it can do. Go fast or slow as you choose. Fast speeds are fun but also give you much much less reaction time. Hence there is less time for any correction and much more chance for disaster. Especially in the hands of less skilled drivers the MINI modded is a force needing to be tempered by good judgement. Be careful out there.

Finally, as I was driving home after a long day. Driving the MINI is so so so nice. We don't really appreciate how good this it is unless for some reason we loose our ability to drive it or look a little closer and realize what we have.
Enjoy the ride. Motor On.

Stay well! Good to know that the MINI is well equipped to avoid accidents. Good news as well that if unavoidable they are protective as well.

Reminds us to drive with spirit and enthusiasm but be ever alert.

Happy Motoring!
