R50/53 MINI Buy-Back?
They can buy back my MCS anytime they want. Six dealer visits and counting in just over four months of ownership and I still have an ongoing electrical problem now for the past two weeks which includes three 100 mile trips to the dealer (one on a flatbed truck), numerous phone calls and another scheduled service appointment for next Thursday to hopefully resolve this current problem. Whereas my MCS has been a lot of fun to drive, it has not been a pleasure to own. Unfortunately my MCS experience is much like what they say about boat ownership; the happiest two days are the day you buy it and the day you sell it. I have already experienced the former; I now look forward to the latter.

actually i disagree..i post quite often about my car and its well being. and i tell every new comer that i have had a great experience so that they all dont think that all minis are bad. however i agree with u that the unhappy owners are more vocal, just as they should be
to answr the question, i wouldnt sell the mcs back, but if i could trade it for a m3/m5 str8 strade i would do it in a hearbeat
i love my mcs, ,but i aint no fool

I leased my MCS after looking at the numbers and figuring I could muster the end payment to purchase, in the event I would be so in love I would buy it at the end of my 4 year lease.
My question is this... BMW has first rights to purchase the car. So say my car buyout is $16K (Canadian). What is the approx. re-sale value in 4 years? (well, 3-1/2 really) They are trying to hold the value by buying back the cars, so is the value going to be more or less than my buyout? Will they end up owing ME money if I say I'll sell it after buying it out?
I LOVE my MCS. IndyBlue w/white, sunroof, climate control, heated seats, steering wheel controls for the stereo, metal shift, brake, accelerator - a VERY good looking and amazing driving vehicle - one I feel will be a good re-sale.
The only thing I want to add is the JCW kit
but being in a lease I can't alter the car
Also, what if they come out with the JCW kit installed as an option in 2005? I would want to trade mine in for an indentical version if the $$$ made sense with the buyback et al.
Anyone else in similar circumstances?

If a significant (affecting) recall allowed a buy-back opportunity, I'd trade for the latest model. Otherwise, the charactor my car has grown is priceless and I'm already completely satisfied with what I got.
I fear the day I have to give it up for something "practical."

mazda did the buyback for the miata back in the 90's when the first miata came ashore. the hp number was inflated too...but look at the miata, it sold like hot cake and is still selling pretty well. with quality and reputable product, mazda didn't have to worry about resale value. ford, on the other hand, including gm and chrysler, is not known for product reliability or quality so its resale value is not as high to start with and coupled with the mustang's fiasco would further reduce the resale value of that year's mustang.
just hope mini wouldn't come to that point especially it is still in its infancy for the american market. keep our fingers crossed.
