Premium fuel in storage tanks

Just sort of came to me yesterday. But I practically never see anyone at the pumps purchasing premium fuel any more. With gas prices what they are today, I wonder if the filling stations are selling less high octane fuels.

If so that would mean their premium fuel tanks in the ground at filling stations are refilled less often, and maybe the 93 octane fuel sits longer than usual.

Any ideas on how long is too long for 91-93 octane fuel to be sitting in filling station tanks before it starts providing medocre performance in our engines.... or should this never be a concern ?

I would not be concerned. And if you are, fill-up with a bottle of Chevron w/ Techron every 5-10,000 miles or so.

I was just reading somewhere that contrary to what perception is, premium sales are on par with last year. The article was saying how only a small percentage of people panic and start putting cheap gas in.
That means turnover should be average.
Besides, I think gas has to sit for months before it becomes an issue.

I would except we have no Chevron stations around here. I usually dump a bottle of Prestone Fuel system cleaner in every 10,000 miles to keep system clean.

But, my original concern was with the 91-93 Octane maintaining itself for long periods and how much it degrades over time sitting in the filling stations tanks accumulating condensation while no one buys it except for guys like us .....

I get a sense they are not selling a lot of it, and that many folks are using the cheaper grades being "penny wise and pound foolish......"
