You don't know how it works? As soon as the car starts running great, it dies shortly thereafter. Seriously, I think the next change I'll try RP and see how it feels for me. Everyone says it works so.....
Thanks for the correction. I was looking at the 5W30 Mobil 1 ref A3/B3.
As to using MINI op manual spec'd oil, mine doesn't mention 0W30 at all. Zero isn't in the book. However, you're apparently comfortable that the OEM wouldn't come back at you for using a non-spec weight. Am I reading this right? If so, why would you deviate from spec?
R
I'm using an OEM spec oil. ACEA A3/B3 and BMW LL-01. Follow the spec rating of the oil. At a min. use the BMW supplied 5W-30, it's really good stuff. (Not the USA Castrol 5W-30, which does not meet these long change interval spec rating's. Nothing but good reports with RP listed here, so you should be fine with that).
i would highly reccomend a whalen shift ****..the guy does an amazing job...its soo worth it...short shifters are fun..but the shift **** is so heavy it throws the car into gear..its so smooth..i love mine..

I like the looks of the Whalens from pix on the site, but tell me again why they are worth the price. They make shifting crisper?
The added weight of the ball helps a stock shifter feel like a short shifter in a sense. The weight, when thrown, acts like a heavier lever and guides the shifter into the desired gear with less effort. Now this is more based on the metal Whalen *****. I have a pool ball ****, and while it still helps, I doubt it works as well as the heavier machined *****. I just couldn't pass up the color option and look, though:
People look and ask "Is that a real pool ball?" It sure is.

i won mine at an event..but i would say its way worth it..if you dont want to drop the money yet for a short shifter, or not sure if you want to..i would go whalen..if i didnt win mine i wouldve gotten one eventually..it its honestly one of the best "mods" ive done with my car..doug is amazing..the pictures on his website dont do the ***** justice...i mean i would pay for it just for the looks alone..amazing..
Chances you would ever notice any difference between high-quality motor oils is basically zero.
The "wear" stats that they cite are based on large fleet statistics - any differences are statistical, not appreciable on any specific car.
Save your money and use an oil that doesn't cost 3x as much because of the cost of advertising. Or maybe even the one that MINI has an endorsement and warranty deal with - Castrol...
Just change it every 8-10K miles, and you can use any 5-30 oil, and you will never know the difference...

And I guarantee you that any magazine that shows an increase in performance with RP is also being sponsored by them. Granted, the increase is real. They're just getting paid to push the name RP over other brands.

Doesn't matter who they are paid to push, you said it yourself the increase is real

Yes but this also leads people to believe that it's the best oil ever made, which it is not. I don't see RP being factory fill on any cars, advertised as the oil of choice in any sactioned racing bodies. It just leads stupid people to believe that it's better than say, RedLine/Amsoil/what have you. I guess what I'm trying to say (without sounding like an ***) is yes, it works. Both from a performance standpoint and a marketing view, it's worked in the past and will continue to work. But there are other options out there.
I'm no tech by any means so I'll exclude myself from the debate above. I will add though that after making the switch from standard (USA) Castrol Syntec 5w30 to the Mobil 1 0w30 my engine seems smoother and quieter at start up. I've never tried any additives in the oil of any vehicle I've owned but a buddy of mine swears by the Lucas fully synthetic oil stabilizer in his Z4. Has anyone else used or swear by this stuff?

Lucas is good stuff. A lot of people swear by both the fuel treatment and the oil additives. If I keep my car long enough to really rack up the miles, I may start adding the synthetic additive but I'm not at that point yet. It doesn't burn any and it never moves on the dipstick so I won't start yet.
Yeah Lucas is sweet I put it in an old Ford truck I had that had really bad lifter knock just so I could get it to the shop and the noise totally went away
Well, I'm finally going to get around to it today. I have my Purolator (L15465 for those who don't know ) and 5 quarts of 10W-30 RP. I'll be sure to post my findings once I do everything in a few hours time. Gotta eat lunch first you know....
