Idle control valve

Has anyone found the idle control valve (ICV) on a mini cooper yet? It is also called an idle speed control valve. I think mine is dirty or sticking, as I've got an uneven idle that occasionally almost stalls. I've got new plugs and an airfilter for the car (2002 MCS), but figured I might need to clean the ICV. Problem is, I can't find it either on the car, on realeom, or on any of the message forums.

Thanks for any help,
Ian

It is my understanding that the idle on the MINI is controlled by the ECU, not by any mechanical valve.

The idle speed is adaptive and controled in real time by the ecu based on various sensor readouts and conditions. You cannot adjust idle speed yourself. A fluctuating idle speed means something is being read by a sensor to warrant that fluctuation. Without expensive diagnostic equipment you'll never find the cause.

Thanks gang, I guess that's why I couldn't find the ICV . I'll check for vacuum leaks next.

My 03' MCS had some idle issues as well. I had about 56,000 miles on her, so I changed the MINI's fuel filter. I Have had no issues since.

I was looking for the fuel filter, but the Bentley manual said it was integrated into the fuel tank, and "lifetime". Was it an expensive part to replace?

30 to 40 dollar range, under the back seat, passenger's side. Not hard, but a little messy. Check some threads; there's a great one with pics, instructions, cautions and all.
