I've been trying to get my mom to buy stabilizer bars, aftermarket wheels, and custom paint for her Insight. It sounds good to her, but I think all she cares about is getting to and fro.

Lets see how well built this car is. The Insight has a .76g lateral force on a 200 ft. skidpad. Our MINIs probably have at least a .90g force. But of course, that kind of problem can easily be fixed with wider wheels and tires, sway bars, etc. (unfortunately at the cost of fuel mileage).

If you are so in love with the Toyotas, why not wait for the equally disfunctional Scion twins: The A and Xb???

I saw a new Scion B here in Miami last week (Had California temporary plates) and I almost had to make a run for Pepto Bismol...but hey it seems that a Scion might just be right up your alley.

So what? if a rally car is so important to you, then why not look into the Focus SVT, Subaru WRX Sti or Mitsu Lancer EVO IV????

Those, at least, are "REAL" cars, not wannabes.

Cooper4us, I guess you missed the part where I care for the enviornment. Also realize that the more money we spend on gasoline, the more money the unpredictable and ever so volatile Middle East has to fund terrorist activity.

Its all about the gas mileage. I'd buy an electric car if there was one in production.

I was showing the rally car to display that there is potential for this car.

Like I said, if fuel mileage is your top priority, you will do much, much better with a new 1.9L TDI Golf...50+ MPG, nicer car and no added complexity.

Sorry but based on what I have read, hybrid tecnology is not all that..interesting but still in its infancy.

I don't hate Toyotas. Hate is a pretty strong word by the way. I just don't care about their current cars with the exception of the IS300 and the MR2. Once upon a time Toyota has some nice pocket rockets like the Corolla FX-16 GTS, the old Celicas and MR2 and the now defunct Supra. No wonder the typical Toyota buyer today is over 47 years old!.

Golf TDI 2 door 2853 lbs @ 90 hp = 31.7 lbs/hp @ 42/49 mpg
MINI Cooper 2524 lbs @ 115 hp = 24.9 lbs/hp @ 28/37 mpg
Toyota Prius 2855 lbs @ 108hp = 26.44 lbs/hp @ 55 mpg est.

On top of that, the Prius is the largest car of the three. If there were a MINI Diesel, Hybrid, Hydrogen Fuel Cell, EV, etc., I'd buy one.

My brother drives a regular GL Golf and it is slow. I couldn't imagine taking away any more power. Secondly, it is projected that the new Prius has a 10 second 0-60 time.

BOOOO? I should boo you for not caring about what pollutants you blindly emit into the atmosphere, but then again I'd have to boo 200 million other Americans, and that would be considered if not terrorism, treason.

Not a big difference in the real world Abe. I have driven the Golf 1.9TDI (Which by the way you can get as a 5 door in case you are interested) and has gobs and gobs of torque down low. The 90HP 1.9TDI engine is a cut above the standard 115HP 2.0L Gasoline engine found in the GL models...two different beasts.

You don't have to convince us here if you want to go trade-in.

Not sure how many others are going to follow, but I'd rather take the bus.

frankly, I must say that I've never understood why forum members ask these kind of questions. I liken this to asking us if we think it's ok for you to leave your wife for another woman. If you're going to do this, just do it and keep it to yourself.

BTW, my other car IS a 2003 Toyota Prius! (but I'd never get rid of Mini for it, these are not mutually exclusive things)

Look, I've always considered myself part of the solution, not the problem and all that (old deadhead I guess), but let's be real.

If you're that dedicated, don't use public utiliies or water (cause most are powered by non-renewable sources), heat your water and power your house with solar energy... don't buy anything that is manufacturerd or shipped using petroleum products... basically, move the to southwestern desert and build a tire/bottle/adobe hut half underground and you'll be doing your part to save the planet.

But if you're going to live in work in a society that is predominantly based on fossil fuel consumption, get over it and drive what you want. You're already doing your part better than 50% of the population by not driving a behemoth truck/car, so recycle your glass, plastic, aluminum and enjoy yourself.

Also realize that the more money we spend on gasoline, the more money the unpredictable and ever so volatile Middle East has to fund terrorist activity.

Ohhhhh, I don't even want to touch that comment. ARGHHHHH, I'm TRYING REALLY, REALLY HARD not to breathe deeply, breathe deeply, ahhhhhhh, I gotta say something!

Make sure you don't buy any pot either, since the money that you spend will probably go to buy a drug dealer some more bullets to shoot little kids and, if it doesn't, it will definitely wind up in the hands of Al Queda...

OK, I think I showed some restraint.

Seriously, lighten up... enjoy life, it's all too short!

DUDE! Your a surfer! Do what makes you happy. My MINI is riddled with problems (although it seems fixed now...KNOCK ON HUGE *** WOOD) , and no matter how hard I try to bring myself to sell it, I cant! Just look at it! So do what I do, strap your board to that little bad boy....hit the beach....and chomp some waves! Life is toooo short.

I still think the Scion Xb is a hideous looking vehicle and after seeing it in person, my perceptions of it did not change one bit. It reminds me of a shrunken Chevy Astro van or a Mini sized Suburban (Neither one a beauty queen). Most "Youngester"s for which the Scions are aimed at, would not be caught dead in one of those boxes. Actually it seems that thirty, forty and fifty somethings seem to be more attracted to them than the twenty somethings the Scion brand is supposed to enroll. 20 year olds aspire to VW's BMW's Hondas, et al, not Echo derivatives like the Scion.

After seeing pics of the '04 Prius interior, it looks pleasant to the eye, but I can't get over the funky styling. In all honesty I much preder the Suzuki Aerio 5 door hatchback or even the Pontiac Vibe.

Most Toyota Lovers seem totally unable to swallow criticism of their favorite brand.

Just a little heads up...do you guys know what the average age is for a MINI owner?

Anyone?

Anyone?

47 years old

Believe it. I got it straight from a guy at MINI Division.

Interesting but I haven't seen that statistic in any automotive industry journal yet.
