R50/53 Why spend so much on your cabin air filter? Alternative here
I got mine in yesterday and everything seems OK.
It was definitely tighter to try and get in than the factory filter, but, I got it in with a bit of muscle.
The other thing I noticed is that it has less surface area than the factory one, having 29 pleats vs 39. Bad? I don't think so, just might need to be replaced a bit sooner.
I'm definitely happy for the money I spent though.

Thanks for the heads up on the Logical Source link.
I just bought 2 of the cabin filters and noticed they have the radiator cooling fan assemblies, has anyone bought one of these from them?
How did it work?
Thanks,
Brad

Got it yesterday and installed it. What a PIA to do. The filter comes out easy but it's a B!tch putting the new one in.
You'd think it would be easy, just slide it into the track and push it up. Hell no! That track if friggin tight.
This is what I did, I've got smaller hands and arms so this helped me out after about 15 mins of trying to just push the filter up by it's sides.
there is a torx screw that holds the 2 halves of the box together.
I loosened it up so that the track had a bit more give and I had a bit more room.
I started sliding the filter in until it wouldn't go any further.
Slid my hand/arm in-between the filter and the air box till I could reach the top of the filter and pushed it up from there.
Felt around and made sure that everything was still lined up and within the track, tightend the torx screw back up and put the lid back on.
No, I haven't tested to see if ther is a difference. But it's definitely cleaner than the one I took out.

From the way you're describing the installation, it sounds like you made the same mistake I did installing the filter. You installed from the inside (top of your hand under the filter) and pushed upwards. If you place your hand above the filter (from the outside--palm of your hand on top of filter) and push upwards, it installs in a cinch.

I agree, it is a PITA to get the new filter in, but once it's in I realized I get to do it again in 12 months..
I guess next time I will try the method Xymox mentioned. (Thanks for the tip Xymox)

I just bought one of these filters from A to Z because of this thread. Wow, was my old filter disgusting! I'm the third owner and just passed 60,000 miles; not sure if its ever been changed before. For less than $20 shipped I'd highly recommend doing this, I noticed a difference in the smell with air on immediately. I was surprised by the size of the filter, it looked like there was no way it would fit.
In for two! Thanx OP. The old filter was pretty nasty. It was a PITA to get it in so I found a new use for KY jelly
The first thing I noticed was that the AC was not laboring at all like it used to to put out air. Now that I know how, I will replace this annually.
