I have had my MINI 11 months and got my first speeding ticket. The cop was nice about it and told me they would have speed traps in the same location all weekend. He also said that they are writing speeding tickets to everyone--nobody gets off because we have a state budget deficit! (he admited it to me!) So how many tickets does everybody else have?

My indy blue MCS is invisible.

Fight the ticket! fight fight fight! I really detest it when tickets are used as a form of revenue generator. Make them pay with time in the courts. Your case may get thrown out because the cop probably won't show due to giving out so many tickets.

I have had none in years BUT I have had my Mini for 4 months and 2 tickets.

My advance. If it's your first in 3 years, get a lawyer anyone.

A traffic ticket lawyer cost 100 to 150 (for speeding). Mine was 125.

WHY you may ask. Because the lawyer got court supervision from 6 months to 60 days (which is great). I also did not have to go to traffice school, and it has no chance of going on your record (unless you get another ticket in the time frame they give you).

I't easy not to speed for 60 days, 6 months is a long time.

As a bonus, when you go to court, you don't have to talk AND you get to go first

I was in and out of court in 7 minutes.

I have many. It's like a double slap in the face: kill the MINI, and kill my wallet thru insurance.

ADVICE: go to court and fight it...always!
good luck,
Ryan

That’s true and the price of the fine is only the start. You can find your insurance rates increase, which can cost you hundreds or more a year.

Fight, fight, fight.

I guess I am in the minority...I was guilty as charged...if you were breaking the law by speeding, reckless driving, etc. take responsibility for it and smile...the police officer and I talked for five minutes about my MINI after my "invitation to the policeman's ball"...his fiancee was wanting to get one but he had reservations. He looked at the speedo and was astonished at the 150 tick...I told him as far as I knew it only went 65!

I was caught doing 52 in a 25...albeit the 25 mph zone was stupid in a non-residential non-anything area underneath the interstate. I was coming off a 25 mph interstate off-ramp and he caught me actually coasting passing a SLOW Lexus so the joke was on him!.

I got stopped the other day because the state trooper wanted to see my interior. I was speeding but he didn't seem to care about that.

I agree ZAKdog to a point.

I was guilty of speeding. I got a lawyer, not to fight it but to reduce the penalty. I got 60 instead of 6 months, the fine was lower, I didn't have to go to traffic school, and I was out of the courtroom within 10 minutes.

It was worth 125 Bucks.

I also don't mind getting tickets and paying for the ticket. I hate the insurance companies. Who really is punishing me, the law or the insurance companies.

You all just need to move to St. Louis. If you get a speeding ticket you just go to a lawyer (~$100) and it will get reduced to a non-moving violation. You'll have to pay court costs but there will be no points against your license. This is how the system works here and everyone is happy. The municipalities are happy because they get more money, the lawyers are happy because they are making money for providing the service, and the driver is happy because there are no points.

Minigirl - I just got my first ticket yesterday too for an illegal U-Turn. Just wondering, what state are you in that's trying to meet the state budget deficit?

Minigirl, I would also like to know what state you're in. It seems all states have deficits.

I see you like parrots, I have three of them!

I haven't gotten a speeding ticket for over thirty years. Unfortunately, my MINI has been a bad influence on my driving habits. I find myself motoring more agressively just to put my CRYSIS through the gears (steptronic mode). Every stop light becomes a challenge and I just hate it when someone is front of me at the intersection and can't rev him through the gears. I know it will just a matter time before I get caught but unitl thenI will enjoy every moment of this juvenile behavior.

Ryephile,

Will you go to court for your "careless driving" ticket? I once fell asleep and crashed into a tree and got a careless or reckless driving ticket. Don't remember which. Anyway, when I went to court, with an attorney, the attorney respectfully pointed out that there were no witnesses so how could I be convicted of careless driving? I didn't get the ticket.

Good luck with your ticket and your new MINI when it comes.

Always get an attorney and fight the ticket. If everyone did it would plug up the system so bad. Ryan is correct, speeding is an art, and a certain amount of luck doesn’t hurt any either.

Definitely fight the ticket! In most cases the cop will agree to reduce the ticket to a lesser violation. I just got a ticket the other day for speeding, 56 in a 40. I called my stste trooper friend and he called the officer who gave me the ticket and asked him to "take care" of me at the trial. So hopefully I'll get a better plea than the average joe. There is a chance the officer won't show up for court at all. A while back I got a ticket for 96 in a 65, and when I showed up for court, none of the troopers scheduled to be there showed up so the judge let everybody go free and clear! Talk about luck!

In what armpit of a state do you live, where the state supports its spending in such an intrucive way? Tickets, none in the S one three years ago in Ga. !$ over. !977 Yugoslavia about 40 over. In the sixties ... I don't really remember the sixties. As I always say, "If you can remember the sixties, you weren't there."

Motor on.

No tickets yet...knock on wood! About 2 weeks after we had "Jack" my husband did get pulled over. He was going 52 in a 30mph zone. The police officer seemed to be more interested in the location of the speedo and tach than writing a ticket. Jon explained to the officer that the car was new and he was just getting used to the feel of it! Yeah right! He was having some fun in the twisties

I haven't had a speeding ticket since 1985! But I think I am driving on borrowed time, with this Mini it will be very difficult to avoid it forever!

Not that I know this from experience....

But, when you show up, try to plead it down to "Failure to Ebey Posted Sign" EVERYONE knows that is a speeding ticket, and you are screwed for the fine, but it's not a speeding ticket on your license and I believe the points are less.

Not that I know this from experience....

Just ask the nice officer if there is anything you two can work out. And, if you end up sleeping with him, or her, let us know. Finally, an UPSIDE to getting a ticket in a MINI.

Doesn't count though if you two eventually marry.
David
