Quote: oh yes it is, the Mobil 1 0W-40 stuff.... both ACEA A3/B3 and BMW LL-01 certified too. good stuff. Though I prefer the German Castrol 0w-30 first. My preference would be:
I meant the Mobil 1 5-30 isn't a true synthetic

and you are right, the 0-40 mobil 1 and 0-30 syntec are both true synthetics.

Is the 0w-40 Mobil 1 extended life? It does not have it on the container and does not have a gold cap.

Quote: The BioSyn is looking like some real good stuff so far, at least in my car. I've had a 6,000-mile analyses done already, and I should have the results of the 10,000-mile analysis later this week.
[snip]
On all the tests I've had done on the MINI oil, it was just about shot by 9-10,000 miles, so I'm curious to see how the BioSyn compares.
Bio-synth 10k results? I wonder if they will formulate a supercharger lube; they do have gear oil. Yikes! shipping for a gal jug is half the price of the gal jug. Looks like i've to pull the trigger on the 5-gal.

Well, I've gotten the results for the 10k BioSyn test. From the standpoint of viscosity breakdown and flashpoint reduction, it did much better than the MINI oil. The wear numbers and fuel dilution were higher than Terry or I would like, but the wear numbers were still better than the MINI oil, and the fuel dilution was less than half of what I was getting on the MINI oil. Terry thinks I may have an airflow restriction with my intake, so I'm going to investigate that a little further.

I'll post the results in the other thread I have going, and link to it here. Right now, I'm not comfortable going the full 10k miles on the BioSyn *in my engine*, just going from the TAN/TBN numbers, but in general, the oil held up great. If I can lick this fuel-dilution problem that I've had since the car was new, the BioSyn would easily be a 10k-mile oil.

Terry Dyson at Dyson Analysis is a big fan of this stuff... supposedly outperforms synthetics in a variety of ways (cold engine protection so you can drive hard right from the start, better ring sealing for less fuel dilution, low wear, long life). The numbers I've seen look impressive. Scott Riqui is running it now, I'm going to be running it. We'll see how the numbers look in our cars...

I'm not running it because it's "green"... I'm running it because an expert I trust believes I'll get more engine life from this stuff. Worth a try. Frequent oil analysis will tell me if he's right...
I looked on the site but see no pricing on the 5w30

So does your MINI smell like french frys cookin with this in it
