Keeping a dyno tune?

I know this will seem like a dumb question, but, these dyno tunes aren't cheap. So, if I get my MCS dyno tuned how do I insure not to loose that tune? The add on chips, from what little I understand, just hook in so you can re-do at any time. What would effect a dyno tune? How do I prevent tune loss? I'm about to take the plunge so I need answers. Thanks!

BTW the car now has: Craven 15% pulley, Magnaflow catback, Mini-Madness CAI with cowl mod, NKG BKR7EQUP plugs, NAPA 060539 belt, fresh oil change, M7 STB, M7 Air Plate Diverter, and the stuff in my signature (I know I need to update it)

Most of the time when you change something significant like head, cam, timing ect., your tune will change slightly. Most of the mods you have listed wont really effect it.

im thinking and may be wrong, but his question may be more towards a safc controler, i know that on most cars with obdII after a while the car will tune out the safc and your back to normal.

pigybacks like the unichip wont do that they will hold the tune but they arent really dyno tunable as far as i know

but to my knowledge there is only one real work around either write down all the settings when its dyno tuned, or have someone like rmw tune it. if a place can crack the ecu then it will not overwright

Exactly. You would need a full stand alone or piggyback ECU to keep a true tune.

Even a piggy-back like the Unichip will lose some of it's benefit because of the adaptive nature of the stock ECU.

The only true un-alterable(?) tune is one where the actual ECU values are adjusted, like the ones Jan from RMW can do. Unless you get a reflash from the dealer........

I am planning on a RMW tune. I am wanting to know if can be "erased" by accident? If it can, how to prevent it from happening and/or how to restore the tuned settings? Thanks again!

If the dealership updates (reflashes) the software on your computer then it will be wiped out. Jan has a remote tuning solution that could be used in the case of something like this happening.

I'm fairly sure if your tune gets wiped out he'd send you the tune again. You'd be out... shipping and handling of his flasher tool (And possibly a deposit).

If it was erased by accident you wouldn't be able to drive the car cause the ECU would be toast.
