Oil & Tranny Fluid Change - Engine Check Light

Just got oil filter & fluid and also transmission fluid (both Castrol Synthetic) changed over the weekend and my check engine light came on the following day. So, I've checked the gas cap and it's secure. I've also only started maybe 10-12 times since so the error may not clear until after 20, or so I've read in another thread.

What could make the check engine light come on after fluid changes? Anyone have a similar experience?

Thanks...

The CEL may be totally unrelated to the fluid change.
High thee to the nearest Autozone or Advance Auto and ask them to scan the OBD for you.
If you offer to slip the guy a couple of shekels, he may even erase it for you.
Welcome to the neighborhood!

I'm in Ontario, Canada, so no Autozone, but I've actually wanted to find out if there is an OBD reader by brand name and/or model which I can purchase to read the codes myself while in the garage trying to diagnos problems?

Also, I've heard that some have sourced OBD software which comes with a cable. This software can be run on a laptop and/or PDA. Anyone heard of this or is there a thread already going?

Thanks again for the input!

Ok, so this morning the CEL turns off with a beep sound when I started up. Hasn't come on since so I guess the fluid change triggered the sensor and it needed the +20 starts to clear itself.

Also, anyone who is looking for an OBD Scanner, I found another thread pointing to: Linear Logic ScanGaugeII
