JCW.

 

I put a Millltek on my 05 MCS and absolutely LOVED it. No highway howl and not too loud but you could make it bark on demand. When I was waiting for my 06 JCW, I was sure that I would slap a Milltek on it too but when it arrived, I was mildly suprised by the JCW cans. The tips fairly similar to the Milltek and the sound was ok enough to make me want to keep the Milltek $ in my pocket. I'm happy with the JCW's, just not as happy as with the Milltek's. All this to say, If you have the stock system, get the Millteks. They sound a thousand times better and give a performance bump (the amount of which is debated) that is appreciable.

 

I went from Remus to straight-through to OBX and now I can hear again

THe Remus is what was used to go sraight through. My son had the mufflers removed and replaced with straight pipe keeping the Remus tips.. Actually it sounded like a mini racer should, loud and very burbbly. It scared the living SH** out of anyone next to us when you got WOT

Pardon my ignorance (still getting to know MINI stuff), but what's a 1-ball modification???

It's on the R53 (2002-2006 MCS) where the exhaust is rerouted to go through only one of the "mufflers" (driver's side), removing the other one, hence "one ball".

The Alta is kind of sort of a "one ball", in that it's only routed down one side of the car... I'm considering that one...
