carpet flooded- problem ?s

i have a 05 mini cooper s coupe and for the last 3 winters have had a problem with the sunroof drain vent coming apart and leaking water inside the interior compartment and flooding my carpet. the problem is that i dont drive my mini during the winters and leave it parked outside in the driveway, but still, what owner shuold have to worry about a near new car having these issues just from sitting outside during winter months!?!

i have had the carpet replaced by the dealership twice already, the first time they were willing and did it without even asking me, however, the second year it happened, i needed to complain and go thru a number of supervisors and managers to get the carpet replaced even tho it had the same "musty" smell! it is still under warranty, but i can see the dealership not really wanting to replace the carpet the third time... and yes, it is flooded and does not smell good.

have any of you had these same issues? if so, how were they resolved by the dealership? is there any permanant fix to solve this problem besides the dealer just putting the vent hoses back on? is this a common problem?

any advise or info you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, they should do their d@m job and fix it correctly.

If I were you I would be mad as h*ll and demand that they not only fix the drain correctly this time but replace the carpet again.

Remember this is their screw-up not yours. They should make it right.

Go straight to the supervisor if they give you a problem, get a new carpet, a new under mat, which is probably why it still smells musty after replacing, and get the tube completely replaced.
These dealers don't want to know about any problems, yet they charge an arm and a leg for repairs if it isn't under warranty.

Give 'em heck!

One other thing.. here in New York, they have a lemon law. If a car is back for the same problem more then 4 times, you get a whole new car if you complain enough. Talk lawsuit and they will fix it or replace it.

flooded carpet Mini C 2005

Just experienced exactly this problem. Immed. diagnosis by a tech which makes me think this is a common issue. Car just out of warranty...repair of tubes and cleanout of carpet and footwell for almost $1400!!!
Why this is not covered by rust corrosion warranty is beyond me.
Any thoughts or further experience out there?
Suggestions?
Advice?
