I'll be taking pics of my 4 month old in the new mini tomorrow. I have a graco snugride that we've been using in our SUV, but he's basically a giant, and outgrowing it. I think the style seat you get TOTALLY depends upon the age of the child. Under 1, then think about the infant carrier that snaps into the base. Over 1? Go with the roundabout or the diplomat.

I know I have read SOMEWHERE on here of someone who was hit by a bus with their child in the back seat while stopped at a light-- both parent and child were fine. If my little boy chills out here in a moment (currently moaning to signify how*not* tired he is....) I'll see if I can dig it out for you.

Over 6 months, (or again, have a 17 pound 4 month old.. ::sigh: and I HIGHLY recommend the Quinny Zapp stroller. I fit it, small duffle of baby stuff, small duffle with my stuff, and other random stuff in the boot with a bit of room to spare, under the parcel shelf. Granted, I'm still learning how best to get him in and out of the roundabout, but it is totally doable. I'm using a sling when we shop. Takes up next to no room in the car and he loves it.

Anyone with any experience of installing twin babies in a MINI? And where do I go to research car seats, strollers, cribs and all the other necessities we'll need?

I know I have seen a post with twins in the back of a mini-- I will have to see if I can find it.

Search any of those key words and you'll find lots here or on mini2. I have googled mini and infant and mini and baby to death!

I *believe* the double peg perigo aria stroller fits in the boot. Might want to look into a roof rack or one of the minidomore hitches if you're hauling two little ones and the gear for them. Though, there are a lot of options. A single pack n play will work for a while.

Not twin babies

but two kids.... And it's doable, the key will be the stroller. none of the travel systems (base for movable infant seat that clicks into a stroller base) will work, so you're looking at fixed seats and a separate stroller.

Clubman maybe?

Matt

ps, congrats on the good news!

My son who will be turning 4 in a week has been motoring in my MINI since he was 4 weeks old. His pictures and various seating devices he's been in have been posted here on NAM including in the Fathers and babies thread.

Anyhow, it gets easier in time. He wants to get in and out of the car by himself since he's a "big" boy. I've never removed him from the boot like others have though. I used the Peg Perego travel system when he was young, and when he grew older, a rear facing seat--I just climbed in the back in the seat next to him and put him in. Yes, my biceps grew---but it all worked out fine, lol.

A welcome distraction from work...

Here's a couple pictures in my R56:

1. Graco Snap-and-Go Frame. For use with an infant "bucket" seat. Not much room to put anything else in there:

2. Quinny Zapp Stroller, both upside down and right side up. It comes with a carrying case, but unless you're going on a plane or something, there's really no need to keep it in the bag. The wheels do come off easily, if you needed a few more inches of room.

3. The Britax Roundabout Seat, rear-facing. Gavin was happy to oblige and model it for you all:

Matches the cloth interior nicely.

Hubby has the graco base in his car, or I would have shown the fit on that.

They don't look giant to me.
I think the way it's likely to work once the babies arrive is that my wife will drive the MINI to work, and I'll use her Subaru to get them to and from daycare. We're currently planning on the travel system style stroller, but finding a stroller that will take 2 baby carriers is a challenge. Most of the 2 kids strollers seem to be for 1 baby and 1 toddler.

I may be totally wrong, but I think there is a parents of multiples forum on iVillage that you might be able to get the info on double strollers. I've seen some that take two infant seats, so I'll spend a minute on Amazon and see if I can find one for you. Best thing to do is go to a place like Babies R Us.

Tada! Again, don't know if it fits in the boot, but here's Graco's double frame:

Here's the iVillage group on raising multiples. I'm sure there are other similar forums that you could give you advice on gear.

Zapp fits in the convertible also
Here's a couple pictures in my R56:

I've got an 07 convertible and the Zapp fits in great, I keep it in the carrybag to keep things clean and take off the two rear wheels and pop them in the bag too. It's easy enough to pull out the stroller in the bag so it doesn't start to unfold as you squeeze it through the hatch.

I even have room in the boot for a fully stocked diaper bag, spare clothes, two brown paper bags of groceries (on top of the folded and upturned Zapp), a large picnic blanket, 4 sweaters and some toys for my girls (2 & 4).

We also have two Radian65 car seats made by Sunshine Kids (forward facing) and they look awesome, really sporty, some people have looked twice before noticing they were baby seats. I did fit in my previous Britax marathons, but the Radians have a steel base so they sit lower and then little fingers are further away from the folding roof - definitely a plus !! There is also a little net pocket behind each front seat that holds a couple of soft toys and a travel colouring book and crayons. The girls are comfy and both have taken a snooze in the back when the mood takes them

Of course they love the top down when we're driving on surface roads, I'm lucky enough to live in coastal Los Angeles, so there's plenty of opportunity to get the wind in their hair without freezing their little noses. My eldest loves to hear her friends talk about how cool her bumblebee car is (yellow with black stripes ... of course) and she is always delighted to wave goodbye (like the queen) as we drive off after picking her up from preschool.

As stated and shown above, its doable. I have a 2-year old and a 3-year old. Sometimes I need a stroller for them. I've managed to fit the Peg Perego Aria Duo in the boot when needed, but nothing more.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.
I'm going to wander around that iVillage site a bit today I think.
The Graco twin stroller is the one we've been leaning towards, due to fact that we can find it and it is actually designed to take 2 infants and the reviews I've read seem overall pretty good (except for people complaining that it's too heavy). However, we're not in a rush yet and more input can only help.

I see you also have the Gotham Grey door panels. Great choice!

Thanks! I like it a lot with the standard headliner. Here in the desert southwest, I think it will help with the heat a bit more.

Yes it does! It also makes the interior less drab and feels more spacious, too. Our Clubman is Hot Chocolate/Silver, but ordered the Gotham Grey panels with the standard leatherette sports seats and checkered dash trim (plus standard headliner) and looks fantastic!
