2 Spoke Steering Wheel upgrade to 3 spoke

I was looking through the mini accessories sold by the dealer. I saw that they sell the three spoke multi functional steering wheel for "2004 models and earlier." Its part number 32 30 6 762 458 $382.00. I have a two spoke steering wheel with non multi function. Can I upgrade it from the 2 spoke to the three spoke multi??? has anyone done this. I really could use the multi function.
One a side note. Im new to these mini forums and really haven't looked into modding my mini until now. Im the second owner and its out of warranty now so i thought i start putting in it what i wish i could have got.
Any ideas on what i should do?
Also what does R56 or R55 mean. I don't know what those models of minis are with the "R's."

as to mods, i'd suggest browsing around this site, MotoringUnderground.com, MINI2.com for modified MINI's.
Lots and lots of ways to go about it. AutoXer, track beast, chromed out, blacked out, stickered out, riced out, euro style, etc... there really are many many choices.
R56 is the 2nd gen MINI. 07+ for hard tops.
R55 is the 2nd gen MINI Clubman
R50 is what you own, 1st gen MINI Cooper
R52 is the 1st gen MINI Cooper S Convertible (same chassis and chassis code for 07 Convertibles)
R53 is the 1st gen MINI Cooper S
