I just called the Mini Dealer. I wanted to get the Rally Lights (400$). They transfered me to service to get a quote on that. It's 3.5 Hours. At $95 an hour thats about 350 bucks in labor. So now the rally lights are 750 bucks installed. I now understand why most Mini's don't have them.

So I was thinking. Anyone in Chicago that does Mini work for less?

Any decent shop can do it if you have the instructions. You can get them here: bridger.us/mini/howto/

How handy are you? Installing rally lights IS a lot of work, but it's more time consuming than taxing in terms of mechanical skills. If you can use a drill and take your time, you can probably do it yourself. That's what I was going to do if I'd been able to get the lights from the recent Minicooperparts.com firesale. I was all set with directions, was going to get the parcel shelf with the switch cutout, etc. (what a bummer that didn't turn out ) Anyhow, most of the instructions that you need can be gotten from links on Gabe Bridger's site.

I think you could save the $400 in labor and diy...and feel pretty proud of the outcome.

Thanks. I'll look at the instructions. I'm OK with my hands. I do a lot around the house. But with cars, I have only done an oil change.

Of course the best would be finding someone in my area that has done it and wants to make a little cash one sunday.
