automatic transmission problems

Hi all

My automatic mini cooper "s" is not shifting smoothly. I am taking it to the dealer next week. Any ideas what could be the problem? i hate being tossed around by my beloved dealer and would like to have some insight as to what the problem could be: software upgrade, service bulletin, recall, recurrent auto trans problems....anything that you would like to share with me.

Thank you.

When you say not shifting smoothly what do you mean? How many miles is on it? Have you tried unplugging the battery and see if your shifts will improve?

Hi there

When i take off, the first change(from 1st to 2nd) is smooth but the second(from 2nd to 3rd) makes the car jerk a little..the car has 62000kms, so around 38000miles. it is still under warranty, but i never changed the ATF on it. Was I supposed to? What are the manufacturer's recommmendations as to ATF?

No i didnt try to unplugg battery. How would it fix the problem?

Thanks

Pulling the battery resets the car, sometimes the computer remembers a weird shift pattern that isn't smooth, having the computer re-learn the shifts might help, but I'm not so sure it would in your situation.

The transmission oil is "lifetime" but you should replace it at around 40K-50K miles as a preventive measure. Try disconnecting the battery and see if that clears the adaptive settings. If that doesn't help, maybe a visit to the dealer is warranted.

How do you change it? I heard it wasn't 'changeable'?
