While the car was there, they looked around and found some other stuff that needed doing that EasyCare would cover. I had the passenger side motor mount replaced, front upper control arms replaced and a couple of other bits and pieces done. EasyCare wound up paying $1709. A couple of little things and the warranty has almost paid for itself, and I still have 2 1/2 years left on it. I say, if you have the money now and you're playing the odds, it's not a bad bet.
Thanks Agro... just the kind of input I was looking for.

I'm being given the 10yr./100,000 mile Easycare Bumper-to-Bumper plan and was wondering if it was easy to use and if the dealerships would work with you under Easycare's guidelines.

Gives me a little more confidence in the idea of owning a MINI for more than 4-5 years (cause my outlook has been pretty grim, otherwise).

well, i too have a CVT and like an above poster got an extended warranty for peace of mind. my warranty covers almost everything (except manitenance items). the only stipulation is it will not cover a reapir that out values the blue book value of the actual car.

i'm in california and we have screwy laws regarding extended car warranties so i couldn't purchase through warranty direct. anyhow, my warranty was $1400 for 4 years/40,000 (i drive less miles per year than most). and since i purchased the warranty last month, my power steering pump has developed a leak. the repair @ $800 will be covered (minus my deductible) and will have paid for 1/2 of the warranty cost on it's own within 8 weeks.

throw in a couple lock actuators and a window motor and it's paid for itself.

I decided to take your advice, especially after talking to the rep and discovering that any modifications voids any warranty.

At $6,217 in warranty repairs equalling to 18.5 days shop time from Jan 2005 to last month, the GE Extended Warranty, if I keep this problem child long enough, isnt so much of a gamble anymore.

or the PS rack. or any electrical problem (remember the 02-06s have Rover-designed harnesses). That EWs cover electrical is enough for me.

My power steering rack and hose wasn't covered. But since the mechanic was already in the area, all I paid for was the parts.

I've been looking on here today for info on EWs. I'm about ready to pull the trigger on one that is bumper to bumper, no deductible. I've been told that is the way to go because they can't nit pick over every little repair for a deductible that way. Yes, it's going to be expensive because I have a cabrio. It doesn't cover the cloth but it does the mechanism. I've had the whole top replaced once already on MINI's dime. I just had to have the airbag seat sensor replaced. $650 at THEIR cost. I bet it would have cost me a thousand!!!! Warranty Direct is sounding better all the time as it covers wear and tear items as well.

A new engine, no problem, a new transmission (@ $6000-7000) no problem. I now feel very safe when driving. They have a payment plan that lets you put down 20% and pay the rest over 10 months. The contract is clear and easy to read, and their reputation is impeccable. I strongly suggest doing your research, but this was the best I could find.

Candog,

Do you have a family member that owns Warranty Direct . I have another detailed post about Warranty Direct so I won't cross post.

I own an 05 R50 CVT with only 10,500 miles on it. Original factory warranty is up in June 09. Here is the online quote that I received from Warranty Direct on "Bumper to Bumper" which does NOT include their OPTIONAL Airbag electronics coverage at an ADDITIONAL cost. I would seriously read their website. There are many loopholes in my opinion .

4 Years / 100000 Miles 4/19/2012 100,000 Miles $ 3,287 $ 3,062 $ 2,837

Note: Prices are listed at $0, $50, and $100 deductible.

NOTICE: My 4 year warranty is actually only a 2 year and 10 month warranty as it starts the date that I purchase the warranty.

I'm not sure what you purchased for $1500 from Warranty Direct but something doesn't add up . The online quote is free and easy. I suggest anyone interested to get their free online quote.

What are the Extended Warranty Company's stance on mods? I have heard there is zero tolerance for any type.

JeffC,

Hiring a "Philadelphia" lawyer is probably the only way to answer your question . I simply don't trust anyone these days. ANY loophole they can find eliminates their liability.

I am going to find some independent mechanics in my area and ask them what their experience has been with various warranty companies. I'm about ready to go back to my younger "grease monkey" days and buy a few tools to do what I can myself. Finding a good local "exotic car" mechanic may be a good option.

Sounds to me that CanDog got the major items coverage.

The best Warranty Direct coverage DOES cover the airbags and everything to do with them because I asked the sales rep specifically about this. I figure if it goes out once the odds are high it will happen again.

As for modifications....I'm concerned about that as well. Personally I don't think that they could deny warranty coverage on say...electronics, because you added sway bars. If they did I think the Feds, and in my case, the State of Florida, would be all over them because of the Magnuson-Moss Act. I'm sure that this company deals with this kind of thing all the time but may not have a lot of customers that know what MM is.

I personally would never take a sales rep's VERBAL promise or comment for gospel truth. If it's NOT written it doesn't exist. In my case, the BEST coverage (bumper to bumper) Warranty Direct's online quote offered me did not include the airbag electronics system. When I viewed the online "Compare Coverage Programs", I did see one level higher of coverage but it was not offered through the online quote system.

P.S. I work for a MAJOR worldwide delivery company and know of at least one sales rep who makes promises that we often cannot keep internally. A sales rep has incentive to make the sale and tends to not be concerned about the consequences until later.

I actually purchased a extended warranty when I purchased my car but then canceled it took the money and put it in my savings account. I later blew some of it on mods.

Best bet is as Minidad08 has said ask your local mechanics.
