R50/53 Leather vs Cloth vs Leatherette
>>My only justification for getting the leather would be the Cordoba Beige interior. But the light tan interior, if not cleaned regurarly, can get dirty fairly quickly. I guess this is the advantage of the black or grey interiors. Another plus of the Cordoba interior is that the car looks and feels bigger more airy inside.
All colors get as dirty in the same amount of time . Because you don't see it doesn't mean it's not just as scummy.

>>Automobile leathers (technical leathers) are coated with generally 50-450 coats of product, including laquer (paint), UV inhibitors, fragrance, etc. Yes, fragrance. The "smell" is artificial 99% of the time. The modern tanning chemicals do not produce that "leather smell", so it is added in the finishing process. Natural vegitable tanning decades ago produced this odor. Very little leather today (none automobile) are vegi-tanned.<<
Very interesting! Thanks for sharing that. Reminds me of how they spray stuff onto fajita dishes in restaurants to make them "sizzle" as they are brought out to the table, eliciting oohs and aahs from the other diners!

I voted for the leatherette. (I hate that term, sounds so fake) The car I'm driving now has leather seats and I usually have to open the car up and wait for ten minutes or so to get in when its sunny and hot and its been sitting awhile. Never again. The Mini leatherette looks great and feels good. Anybody know how it holds up to wear?
