LugNut Hunt

I need a replacement lugnut for my '05 MCS, where in the world can I find one? And, on a side-question, what are people referring to when they say 15% pulley? My un-educated guess would be, 'it's a larger pulley coming off the engine, to feed the supercharger some more delicious 'spins', for more boost".

Later Guys,

I purchased some Lugs from the MINI dealer near me. It was the only place that I could find them and they where 5$ each. And your un-educated guess is correct with one exception, it's a 15% reduction in size thus feeding some more spin.

Yes, the smaller the supercharger pulley, the faster it spins. The most common size for an aftermarket pulley is 15% reduction, but there is a 16%, many 17%, and even 19% reduction pulleys out there.

The smaller you go, the more boost you get, but you also get more heat buildup, (possibly necessitating a larger intercooler), and lower reliability over the long term. With the 19% pulleys, for instance, you need a smaller belt, and probably bigger fuel injectors. You also run the risk of ruining your supercharger, especially if you have increased your engine's red line, with ECU tuning.

Let's say you run your engine up to red line a lot. On a race track, you may hit the red line, and stay up in it for long periods of time. That makes the supercharger spin faster than its' own rated red line, (using a 19% pulley, specifically). Spinning your supercharger this fast for long periods is very bad!

That is why it is many people's opinion that a 15% pulley is safest, and most reliable of all the smaller pulleys offered, especially for track use if you love hitting the rev limiter.

That, or put a WTB ad in the Marketplace - odds are someone has a few.
