R50/53 Do MINIs have a nemesis??
Its funny. One guy I work with has a Miata and another has an Xb. A third has a Civic. Man, we could have a war at work if we wanted to. I know I'm the best driver because 2 of them drive like asses (Miata and Mr. Honda) and the guy with the Xb weighs 350lbs and has another 200 worth of stereo in it.
Nemesis:
1: the Greek goddess of retributive justice
2 plural nem·e·ses \-ˌsēz\ a: one that inflicts retribution or vengeance b: a formidable and usually victorious rival or opponent
3 plural nem·eses a: an act or effect of retribution b: bane 2
How could ANY car want to "inflict vengeance" on a cute widdle Mini Cooper?
(and no SUV bashing, there are wa-ay too many threads on that).
I do like thinking of my car as a Greek Goddess...
Competitor, yes; nemeses, no.
I see your point. MC-Beetle: nemesis. MCS-GTI: Competitor.

Urkle on Family Matters had a Isetta remember. I would consider any blinged up Honda a nemisis, as they all pull up and try to start stuff. I drove the Mazadaspeed3, as did LynnEl, wouldn't put it in the same catergory as the Mini as it looks like a run of the mill family car, but wow what a nice powerplant. I think a Mini with 230+ WHP it would keep up with it though after 1st gear.

My nemesis has always been any car with a light bar on it.
Edit - although sometimes the flashing blue lights can also be hidden behind the grill
Edit 2 - oh yeah, and slow drivers in the left lane

Depends on the version.
If it was the 1.6 four or a 2.0... maybe.
With the 3.0 straight six and rear drive? Probably not. That's more a lighter, faster 3 series.

Hi All -
This thought occurred to me the other day as I have joined a different community of motoring enthusiasts. Bear in mind I use the term nemesis without malice - not referring to hatred, but to a competitive nature, a little jealousy, etc.
I'm a long-time Audi driver and over in Audi-land (won't say Audiworld because I hate that place) there are two nemeses - Subarus and BMWs. Subarus because they compete in the same manner (AWD + turbo) and tend to outperform Audis (especially for the money). BMWs because they compete on the same luxury level and again... tend to outperform their Audi equivalent.
So with MINI... what would be the nemesis? I was thinking Scions would qualify since they have a similar "you-ification" mantra; a small, mod-friendly, fun car designed to be very practical for the size/price. Another thought was the VW GTI - the 'competitive' hot hatch. Maybe the VW New Beetle for the retro-hatch contingent.
Another related thought is how MINI doesn't really have a strong side-by-side competitor in the hot-hatch segment.
Any thoughts?

R56
= R53 turned into a Hatchback Neon or new 2007 AMC Pacer
I waited for the R56 to come out and puked
I will keep my R53 MCS 6-sp.
....barely lighter than 3 series. The 135i is 3400#+. Its a shame really.
