I couldn't tell if it was the newer cavalier or malibu with the weird back. One of those.

I need to hang around people like you who don't mind a good throwdown every now and again.

Hey Mark you did the right thing and got the hell away from that guy, some of these people are just plain crazy I have had my share of folks like those that do really stupid things like try to force you off the road or stick to your rear bumper or cut you off and try to break without any reason in front of you, so you making the decision to get away is the correct one

Thanks, Trevor. As corny as it sounds, I was thinking about what this guy was really prepared to do because I passed him. How do I know what he's got in his car? I mean I've done stupid things on the road that warrant negative reactions, but this wasn't one of them!

Drop me a pm when you know your track schedule for next season...

one other thing, if you're being followed by a "fan" and you know where the local police station is, pull in.

i think you made the right move. I had something similar happen to me recently. Typically i size up the car of my opponent and usually caution on the side of burn them or out maneuver them. So i would have done the same.

In my recent situation the guy would not stop following me, and I was in the womans 4cyl accord. So i called the police and had them meet me at my house. Not the brightest thing to do because the guy then knew where i lived... but hindsight is 20/20.

I did however pull right into my garage, this guy blocked it off by parking sideways across my drive way. So I picked up the 24" harbor freight special breaking bar and decided to meet him at the door. I'm no hardass... however, at 6'3" 200 lbs and 26yrs old... The guy started back peddling quickly as he realized he was barking up the wrong tree.

It was right about then the cop pulled up. I didn't press charges but have a pending restraining order that will sit at the cop shop for the next 12 months waiting for me to sign it if i need.

people are just so angry i don't get it. I really didn't do anything to this guy. I merged into traffic at well over the speed limit from the on ramp and this guy decided he was going to climb into my bumper at triple digit speeds. A simple tap of the brakes were all he had to do... but no he decided to road rage on me instead. lame lame lame. scary thing is.. .in east TN you have to assume every one is packing heat.

glad to hear you made a slick move mb. prob is, your car is fairly recognizable, just like mine. Oh don't mind the bright red mini with black wheels.

Wow, that is an amazing story - sounds like that guy had a lot more moxie than mine did. I think that was a great idea about calling the cops. It never even crossed my mind.

I was a little worried that he'd find my address through having my license plate # (not sure if one could do that), but I was just driving the Mini to give it a workout. It stays at my dad's house under a cover, so I figured if he was waiting for me where I lived, I'd at least be in a different car.

I think if I were 6'3'', 200 lbs. I might have handled the situation differently. Is that bad?

I like my getaway cars with > 400whp and tinted windows with a nice dose Hella Supertones pointed rearward.

On the way to JFK in May to pick up a Dogo Argnentino pup coming in from AR on Aerolineas, we had a guy in an old 300M pull this BS on us. Luckily, the car we were in had nearly 300whp and a quick mashing of the skinny pedal put a quickly mile or two between us (I don't advise this as you will get arrested).

as for getting followed, the best thing to do is call the po-po and tell them someone is angrily following you and you'd like a patrol car dispatched to meet you. Especially if you're a female driver. Or, ask for the nearest police substation and head there and let the cops know you've got a first class jerk in tow.

Thsi story reminded me of something that happened a couple months ago.

Although few of you know the street names, I'll use them for the few Hawaii people who do.

I was heading home one night and merged onto the H1 freeway from the punchbowl street. I was in the merge lane with an old beat up nissan pickup with a motorcyle strapped in the bed just to my left. I stepped on the gas and merged in front of the pickup (with plenty room to spare). I didn't think anything of it at the time and continued on at ~70mph (normal traffic flow).

Many miles later I was in the far right lane of the H1 again which would be merging with the lane to the left (again). I looked in my left door mirror and saw the same pickup coming up fast so I decided to just wait and let him go by before merging. He pulled up next to me and slowed to my speed. I looked over towards him and he is shouting and waiving his fist at me. I can't hear him because my windows are up and the radio is playing. I look over again and he is still shouting and shaking his fist and motioning for me to pull over. yea right. So then I did something stupid and flipped him off. He then SWERVES AND TRIES TO HIT ME. I swerve right and hit my brakes with him just barely missing my front left bumper. Traffic is moderate at this point so I start moving left into the middle lanes ~70-75 with this guy following on my butt the whole time (and continuing to make menacing gestures at me). I'm going just a little faster than the rest of the traffic now. This continues on for the next 2 or 3 miles.
As with the OP I didn't want this guy to follow me all the way home.
A half mile before my exit (h1/h2 split)there was another one (wahiawa) I could take and get home the back way (and not give him a clue as to what town I live in). A short distance before the exit I was 3 lanes over from the exit. I checked to make sure the two right lanes were clear (they were for a good distance). This guy is still right on my bumper. At the last second I cut right hard and took the offramp. That poor old pickup didn't stand a chance of being able to make the offramp. He didn't look too happy but I had a clean get-a-way.

I was actually afraid then, we hit triple digit speeds.... I was really scared. It was late at night and no one around. They followed me around a turn, but thank god there was a cop on teh side of the road. I was obviously over the limit, but pulled over by the cop, told him of the preciecing events, even admitted to speeding due to fear. He listened, turned on the lights and siren, and shot after the car like a bat out of hell!

I have no clue why there are so many who are so easy to anger. Lifes too short to be so sour. Glad it all worked out for you.

Stock, the MINI suffers from the same illness as your '75 Spider--no power. It's a wonder one can, in an MCS, pass anyone.

People will use police against you as well. A driver may call the police because you have passed him/her and tell them that you are the perpetrator of some kind of would-be altercation. If the other driver is female and can turn on the fear tears, you will, at a minimum, be detained. Being on the side of the road with your pockets inside out between two guys pumped up on steroids and a red-meat diet at the behest of a liar and not knowing why could be a downer.

MotorMouth - if someone swerved to hit me I don't know what I'd do. At that point I'd be beyond angry and probably make a rash decision of some sort. Good for you for staying cool.

wasn't much else I could do. I'm not usually packing heat

Wasn't planning on stopping either. Guy looked like he could have been an ice (purified crystal meth) fiend.

I was going to say it must be NJ, but I've had a couple of incidents like that.

One was on a two lane road way out there. Was passing a line of cars (in a Buick Park Avenue) when the second car pulled right in front of me, freaked my wife out, but my awesome car control came in handy. Several miles down the road I see this car coming up fast, I let him pass, but then he braked in front of me and motioned to pull over. We stop, he gets out yelling and waving his arms, I floor it and almost take his open door off. I pull into a firestation a couple of miles down the road and this whacko pulls in and starts yelling at me. I can't believe I kept my cool.

He was driving a company vehicle, so I called to report his actions.

Oh yea, my wife shot him.... with a video camera.

Here's one. I swear to god its true. This was a few years ago. I was driving my mom's 98 Acura 3.2TL. I exit off of I-64 about 30 miles west of St. Louis. I came to a stop at a yield sign, shockingly to yield to cross traffic. There is a ridiculous old Datsun pickup with a 2x4 and plywood bed behind me. I don't thing much of it, wait for traffic to pass and turn from the off ramp onto the road (Northbound HW94-St. Charles). At the next light I end up side by side with the truck. Its literally like something out of the Beverly Hillbillies. The driver (wearing no shirt) goes on a tirade about my stopping when there was only a yield sign at the previous intersection. When I explain that while there was no stop sign,I had to stop to avoid being broadsided by a car going at least 55MPH, the SOB hocks a huge country boy tobacco loogie on my moms windshield. I lay on it and a Camaro whips around the truck and ends up at the next light next to me. I tell him to be careful of the truck behind him because the drivers a crazy inbred SOB. The Camaro driver responds with, "Thats my dad." As soon as I realize he's not kidding, I begin to worry because I know I cant out run this bastard. He paces me for about 3 miles before verbally assaulting me at another red light my buddy riding shotgun and his gf in back seem nervous, but nonetheless my friend looks over at him and implies he should be at home in bed with his sister. This was the wrong thing to say, and the guy in the Camaro is pissed. He threatens to kill us and begins insulting my car. He then says what is that your momma's car? I bed it cant do this. He downshifts and I can only figure he blew out hit transmission, because we flew out of there and he rolled to a stop with smoke pouring out from under his car. It was quite an experience. I must have been about 18 then so that was 6 years ago.
But I've had situations where all you can do is call the Police. I have a history. I'm a recovering drug addict with about 2 years clean. I don't like cops. But they will catch up to you and help if you call and can explain your location. If you don't like that idea, buy Italian.

Here is mine...

About 2 years ago I purchased a 50cc Kymco Super-9 Scooter to commute and have fun with it. It never was fast enough so I did a Big Bore Kit, Exhaust, Variator you name it. The scooter could now do 65 MPH from the original 28. So one day I am coming home doing about 40 to 45 in in a 35 MPH no pass zone..and this guy in this beat up truck pulling a trailer goes flyin by me doing probably 70 and cuts me off. So I give the guy the one finger salute and this made him irrate! He slamms on the brakes and tries to make me rearend him. Well then he takes off again..and I start to roll on to try to get this plate number...when I get close he does it again. So I am pissed as I am going to get this guys number. So the chase ensues. He is able to get out in front but I always catch up. Finally he just starts running red lights!!!! This is when I said it was over and never did get his plate number...

Sold the Scooter as was only getting around 15-20 MPG after all my mods

Have a 03' Buell XB9SL now that gets more respect.

You know, I have to say that commuting 70 miles round trip each day isn't that bad. Now that I have an automatic sedan as a daily driver, the commute is a mellow chill-session.

I do see interesting things every day, however, but I'm so entrenched in the NJ driving style, I hardly notice anymore. I will never get over the left-lane lolly-gaggers, though.

70 mi round trip? I wish! 60 miles each way for me. And yes, I have to deal with Left Lane Richard each and every day...that's just life in NJ...

MBcoops... Yeah friends can always be counted on to say the wrong thing at the totally wrong moment. I had a gf once that insulted a guys girlfriend's hair. He and his buddies almost beat my *** down. However, once the situation passes they always make for a great story.
