For family hauling (wife and two daughters) we have an '02 Honda Odyssey.
The Mini will be my commuter, and what fun it will be

The "other car" is a '99 Volvo AWD wagon. That's the kid-transport unit, the Home Depot shuttle and my wife's usual mode of transport. The MINI is my daily commuter car -- and it's been a great everyday ride.

It is my daily driver. Our other car is a 98 Cherokee. Two kids both in car seats ride in the back of the MINI and the Jeep. It is just a littler easier with the Jeep.

Alice is my daily driver, adn the car we use on weekends. My wife drives a Subaru Legacy Outback sedan (Susie), which it seems we almost never drive on weekends anymore. Before I got the MCS, Susie was the weekend car. We use Alice for grocery shopping and everything. Most of the time, I don't even have to lay the seats down.
I find that once people get in the back seat, they're fine, but getting them in and out requires a little twisting in unexpected directions.
My wife has come to the conclusion that we should pick up a classic Mini if we can find a good deal. I'm not arguing. Of course, that's a lot smaller than a MINI, and I'm not sure what we'd use it for, but...

I'm a big believer in the proper tool for the proper job...Therefore we have lots of rather specialized vehicles. Our MCS is my wife's summer car...In the winter she drives a Ranger with Blizzaks (the Ranger doubles as our "gotta haul stuff" vehicle year-round). I commute in a warmed-over Miata in the summer, then switch to my Civic (with Blizzaks, of course) in the winter.

I counter the "Yeah, but who's got that much money..." arguement with my "Buy it used..." counter-arguement. The Miata only cost $10,000 with 22K on the ticker 4 years ago...The Civic was $8500 IIRC. In total, less than the price of the average new car.

The $6500 Ranger + the new MCS tends to throw the equation off a bit, but hey, it's the first new car we've bought in a decade and a half...We're due.

The other advantage to several speciallized vehicles is the fact you put so few miles on them because you only drive it half a year...I commute 100 miles a day, but instead of putting 25-30K on my Miata every year, I only do half that.

So no, we have other vehicles besides the MINI...

Long-windedly,

DREW

The MINI is pretty much my daily driver. Work, grocery shopping, terrorizing the suburbs at night.

The M5 is for going out on the town, taking a few guests in a bit more luxury, terrorizing the suburbs (with the accompanying WRX's, EVO's, 350Z's, Vettes, and the occasional Porsche) at night.

The R1150RT is for cruising all over the rest of the country.

I can't believe it, You are my twin!

I too currently have a 2001 Honda Accord Coupe! My lease is up and I have to turn in the car in Jan. So I will be ordering my MCS in Sept or Oct.

I plan to drive my MCS as my only car. I haven't been hard on the Honda, even though it has the V-6 and it does haul hiney when I want it to. I've only had a person in my back seat 3 times so the size of the MINI's backseat is no worry for me. I had a 92 Toyota MR2 for 4 years and it had no back seat and it's cargo space is much like the MINI's. I will be perfectly happy with the size and cargo space of the MINI.

However, I will agree with Drew. I have thought that if I ever decided that I need cargo / passenger space, I'll buy a used Honda CR-V and have 2 cars!

Yep, I'm single too. No kiddies or pets, so the MINI is all the space I need.

Right now, my Motoring priorities are:
1. Maximum Lateral G-forces
2. Kickin' aesthetics
3. Crash safety
4. Longitudinal G-forces (aka acceleration and braking)
5. Kickin' Audio system
6. Perfect cupholders for the Taco Bell large cup (rear cupholder is PERFECT!)
..
..
..
..
98. buying a roof rack
99. Maximum Cargo Capability

Hola from Guadalajara, Mexico
New on this website (great site BTW). I bought a Black mini a month ago, sold an Altima. I have a wife and two kids (ages 4 and 2), my mini is the only car i need. Use it to commute, take kids to school, pick them up from daycare and to ride all weekend. Wife, kids and self fit perfect in our Mini... handbag, school bags, my thinkpad computer, groceries and toys fit just right. Have my car equiped with baby car seats, so i can only sit one adult at anytime.
Our other car is a 2000 Ford Explorer, it takes care of the camping, home-mart shopping and taking the kids, bicycles, dogs and the such for a ride. It is my wife's everyday's car, but park it on regular, in town weekends.
In short, good car for young family, however, your second car should be an SUV, minivan or the such. that works for me anyway.
Hope my advice helped you... Regards. Esteban

Hola from Hawaii!
My MCS is my daily driver it does great except when I have to load up more than four people. Then I resort to my other car a 2001 Honda Odyssey. I much prefer the MCS for all driving and I live on a small island so no distance is too far. I load up the boot when I go shopping at Costco and everything fits. My teenage son and daughter don't mind the rear seat. Everyone is happy. Especially the driver

Bought my MCS for use as a daily driver. I drive about 50-60 milesa day average mostly against traffic and along some nice roads. I was previously using my '69 MGB as a daily and the heat and humidity in Miami was killing me! Nice to fin~~~y have some a/c. We have a couple of other cars as well, a VW bug and an '02 Ram quad cab. We're a family of three and we fit quite nicely in the MCS, kind of an upgrade for me from the MG's two seats. Lots more headroom in the rear than the bugs, IMO.

I also have a BMW 325is and a BMW, which isn't as much fun to drive as it used to be. The MINI is all you'll need 99% of the time. It helps to have a brother with a pick-up.

Can't agree more. If given the choice my kids prefer us to go everywhere on the mini, they get very happy when we ride... good thing that they can't get a driver's licence for a while or i'll be doomed
