R50/53 How do you remove the colored dash parts?
It's simple.
First, remove your tachometer from above your steering wheel. To do so, put the steering wheel in its lowest position, and then look behind the tach. Remove the two torx screws. Then unclip the tach from the wiring harness.
After that, get in the passenger seat, and open the glove box. You are going to be removing the passenger dash panel first. To do so, get a firm grip on it from the bottom, and simply pull it off. It is held on with friction clips, nothing else. Don't be afraid to use some force (be reasonable though).
Then move on to the driver side panel. It helps to pull down the knee bolster before doing so, so you can get a grip on the panel from the bottom. This piece also pulls off. The rubber boot loops around where the tach was screwed, be sure to un loop it or you will tear it.
The third piece, the one in the middle, also is held on with friction clips. Same thing, just pull it off.
When putting it back together:
Do the center speedo part first. When putting on the drivers and passenger sides start with the outside corner and work your way to the inside of the car. Otherwise the corners will not go in and they will look all popped out and odd.

From this post:
You need to remove three screws from the bottom of the airbag cover (don't confuse them with the two or three screws for the glovebox, which are in close proximity) Then remove the top of the dash (two torx on either side, underneath plastic panels which just pull off.) From there there are three more torx on the top, as well as two nylon retention straps that require a 10mm socket - the one on the right is tougher to get to - use an extension.
After ALL the screws are out, lift up on the bottom (if you get any resistance, check for more screws) and the cover will pivot out. Note that in the top are three green plastic screw retention pieces. These just LOVE to fall out
and subsequently fall in behind the glovebox :impatient as you wriggle the cover out. Be warned!
Note that it is a breakaway cover, so don't force anything, or you can find it breaking away unexpectedly. Only handle the frame where the screws go through.

the center piece is screwed into the top of the dash with two torx screws just outboard of the flasher and dash light controls, screwed UP into the upper lip of the panel. also, the center piece comes off WITH the speedo and the black panel behind it. the center color panel snaps into the black piece behind it, but the whole assembly comes off in the same fashion as the two outside pieces.
