Three little things I'd suggest doing:

1) Remove any remarks about the specifics of the accident from your post(s); afterall, you were not there.

2) Your wife should send in her SR1 form (http://www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/sr/sr1.htm) and perhaps have a police report written up after the fact.

3) Take photos of the accident area and draw a diagram of what happenedd, keep track of the time and other details.

i got in an accident with Athena less then a week after getting in an accident in my truck ( alright no cracks about women drivers the truck accident wasnt my fault lol) but my insurance didnt go up at all...
