If there was a PETM (People for the Ethical Treatment of MINIs), I'd report them for cruelty.

Ants, put the neon washer nozzles on your car, and the backlit MINI emblems, and you're getting close to rice.

I like the rims and neon lights but I hate the paintjob on that MINI!

>>The new Lexus IS300 sedan is born rice ready

how is it born rice ready? cause its got the altezza lights? those cars are awesome! My dad might get one and I hope he does so I can drive it around.

The cars in FNF are not rice, those cars are all show cars compared to what you see at a real street race. Those cars are for show and go!

The new Lexus is targeted to the young male demographic - the tail lights, fat exhaust, aggressive wheels and stance. It's relatively affordable, meant to compete with euro sedans such as 3 series and the Audi S4. It's modeled on what people have been doing in the aftermarket - it's got a very hip chrono display on the dash - another nod to cool aftermarket stuff. If the import tuner look is in, make a car that looks it. In my area, the primary drivers of it are young guys and girls - mid to late 20's. It screams hip import with those tailights. And there's nothing wrong with that, just not everybody's cup of tea. I bet a lot of Civic Si guys or Focus SVT owners laugh at the MINI - looks silly, odd dash board -whatever. But at some point, you're going to see more MINI's getting blinged or riced. There's a company on eBay selling backlit replacement MINI logos - cool looking, but you're going to tell me that's not rice?

the IS 300 or altezza as its known in Japan isnt for everyone but at least the stuff it comes with is a lot better looking then what most aftermarket companies are selling. I get a lot of the import and focus guys laughing at me and lot try to provoke a race, especially the focus guys. But I get even more complements and questions about the car then inslults. The most asked question I get from them is "is it turbo?" or "is it supercharged?", since I have the MC and not the S I just smile and say "maybe" or to get a kick I say "nope, its got a hemi!" (like from the dodge truck commercial) I agree a backlit mini logo would look odd, I think a CF one would look cool though!

I agree, the Lexus is a class product - doesn't look cheap at all. In fact, more and more cars are going for that look with the tail lights - what starts out as a fad, or "underground" eventually goes mainstream. Most of the SUV's come with factory tints in the rear windows now. I can't tell you how many soccer moms I see driving Escalades with chrome wheels.

Yes, a CF logo would be sharp.

I'm going to put on a set of 22" BOSS BLING BLING rims ... and raise my suspensions all the way up so that the wheel would fit under my fender !!
I'm Also getting a pair of lighted up windshield nozzles...A type R Badge.. A TRD Badge... A M-powered BADGE.. A AMG Badge ...Oh yeah .. I'll rip out my REAL HID lights .. and replace it with cheap HID imitation Helogen bulbs.... I'll put a hugh GTA style wings on top of my car .. in case I want to fly ... An exhaust tip ( maybe remind you .. only the tip ) sooo big .. I can put a basketball in it ... OH yeah ... to finish it off .. I'll put a cheap whistle in my exhaust tip so that it will give off a whistling noise .. so people will think that I actually have a turbo in my car after hear that whistling sound coming out of my exhaust !!! ...

YEAH !!! Rice style MINI !!!

I have a little philosphy of my own when it comes to driving fast and stuff ...

1) Any car can go fast .... just a matter of how long it takes them to go that fast ...
2) its not about how fast you drive ... its about how u drive fast ...

yup ....

OK, where did I put my Gun............
Please kill me.
People don’t do that to a mini; give it to someone that will take good care of it.
Those are just my 2 cents

My philosophy

1) I live my life a quarter mile at a time

2) Its not how you stand by your car, its how you race your car

Let me clarify a few things for some kids out there. Well lets start with Hondas.. Hondas etc. are a smart affordable car, not too stylish, not too ugly, well made and have a long shelf life, that what they were meant to be... then s bunch of people started to take there little rice burners, (named that way because they are from Asian countries) and put spoilers and exhaust system and custom stereo work in them. Not because of anything spectacular. Mostly an ethnic thing. The Latino population had been doing it for year, the poly's and Japanese etc. started to do it with there cars (predominently rice burners.) of course a few years, racing circuits, competions, and a whole new industry later, we have movies and everybody getting on the bandwagon, because its a cheaper bandwagon to get on. You really have to create a monster machine to be seen in this new world of mod... You need to be unique... that is why the mini is becoming popular ,its unique. Rice used to be a derogatory term... but now it’s a labor of love. Much like the mods of the mini. However. Most mini mods come from another direction (not all mind you) MINI has a racing heritage based on rally racing, which in inherently has a lot of mod associated with it.... so this is where the mini mods are coming from, there coming form an icon of the 60's when having a flag on your roof was popular, cars came with flower pots in them, and the hottest race car on the circuit was a mini, decked out with a two tone paint job rally lights, big roof racks and funky gauges. Now I don't know if any other car has quite the same history as the mini, but I dare say the mini even now is never going to be a ricer, or rice burner... however, by itself it is a classic, regal, upstanding and out standing car, that burns fish and chips, a little Shepard’s pie, and maybe a bratwurst or two

Chollomo,

Great post. Not to belittle Honda and the other Japanese manufacturers, they too have some formidable racing heritage. Mazda won LeMans in 1991, Honda engines dominated F-1 in the latter turbo years and first years of the new normal aspiration formula. Toyota is competitive in IRL, Toyota Atlantic and F-1 as an engine and chassis manufacturer. Nissan is competitive in IRL. Mitsubishi and Subaru have dominated in WRC. You get the picture.
MINI does have a longer heritage, by going back to other BMC products like MG and Austin-Healey, road racers and competitive rally cars in their own rights, as well as BMW.
I say, nothing wrong with rice, nothing wrong with traditions. Enjoy your car whatever it is.

In a reverse tradition, we have Hyundai now competing in the WRC. 10 years ago, Hyundais were the object of much derision - and still are in some circles. But by having a car in the WRC, perhaps some stuff will trickle down. Even their 2 door sports car (Tiburon?) doesn't look so bad anymore. And as MGCMAN stated, the Hondas had their VTECH racing engines - and that gave your average kid in the street a big boost. Heck, you buy an Acura Integra GSR with a screaming little engine, just like the big boys in racing have! That gives you credibility - it starts getting nutty when you buy a VTECH emblem and put it on something that's not. At some point, someone is going to throw a red "S" emblem on their Cooper, or put an MCS bonnet on for aesthetics. What will be the reaction then? I had front end damage on my MC, and was able to replace the lower grill / bumper cheaply with a spare MCS part. Am I going to catch sh*t for that? I suspect once supply catches up with demand in the MINI world, base model Coopers (being more affordable) will defintiely start getting more interest from the import tuner segment of the population. I don't think the MINI is exempt from young kids buying it and dressing it to the nines, and once they start popping up used in a few years, that's when you'll really see it happen.

There will always be a contingent of society that will experiment with the extremes of self expression be it through body piercings, tattoos, or having "outrageously" modified cars. In the end it's all about art and whatever you feel best expresses your individuality. I do not choose to drive such an outwardly flamboyant car but then again maybe I do being one of the first MINI owners in my area. Everyone still asks what it is, and I love the attention.

Great art is contriversial and truly great art starts bar fights.
