I think that as mentioned above, it all has to do with the start. These cars are not in two different classes performance wise. It honestly comes down to who is a better driver. If the better driver was in the stock R53 it would beat an R56.

I've been thinking about this...

the 06 has a 0-60 of 7.4 and 1/4 mi 15.6s,

which means the cars perform basically the same (assuming that you both have manual trans.) due to differences of conditions during testing...

The larger wheels have more weight (bad) but slightly larger contact patches (good)... if you want to win, get the pully.

Otherwise, it'll come down to driver skill on launching.
And something is fishey.... With the torque that the new motor puts out and the gear ratios between the two cars, they really shouldn't be this close. The 06 is running a few tenths slower than "Book" but that 07 is wayy off the pace. The model I did didn't even model the overboost torque, and that would make the differences even more pronounced. Even though the torque differences are highest at lower revs, they are larger than the time delta ( a bit over 1%) over most of the rev range. It will be interesting to see more and more numbers come out. I'm guessing that for whatever reason the 07 they ran was down on output.

These numbers seem to run true world wide in the magazines I read. All of them can't be so far off.

Old saying in racing " The B***S*** stops when the green flag drops" Race and see how it plays out. There's only one thing for sure somebody's gonna win and somebody's gonna lose.

Borrow some sticky tires and get your launch down... good luck (raced yet?).

Bench racing only counts if you're racing, umm, benches... or racing to the beer cooler...

While what you all say about bench racing is somewhat true...

there's still something fishy. The cars weight pretty much the same. The gearing is pretty close, and the torque levels are very different. If the descriptions are accurate, then the time deltas should be larger. If they're not, then the descriptions have to be off.
Sure there are all those pithy comments about "the BS stops when the green flag drops" or the equivalent, it's also true that simulation can do a lot more than it's given credit for here.
Fact is, that the specifications given and the performance measured are inconsistant. I don't know why, but they are.
