Has anyone had a similar nightmare? My Mini, ordered in March, arrived distribution center in New Jersey on July 27. Today is August 18. By E-mail, they tell me it "needs two repair" but are unwilling or unable to say what the repairs are, or when Mini will be delivered. My dealer is of no help either, promissing to check and call me back, but never does (Mid-West Mini in Dublin, Ohio). Question: should I even accept a Mini that had defects that have taken weeks to repair?

It depends on what your MINI is and if you can find another one at another dealership. I had a MINI S coming in through one dealership and found out that it had been "damaged" and was going to have to be painted (in part). I was uncomfortable accepting a new car that I knew had been damaged in some form. I could not get details. It may not be that uncommon for cars to get damaged in shipment. I don't want to know about it. Another dealer had the EXACT car sitting on the lot. So I bought it. If I wasn't going to be able to get my hands on another car, I probably would have accepted the damaged one, reluctantly.

Don't know N.J. laws, but in most states dealers (and Mfgs) must disclose damage that exceeds a certain amount. In Florida, for example, the threshold to disclose is $750. Damage in transit is very common, and seldom disclosed despite the law. I recommend you send a registered letter to both the Dealer and Mini requesting a detailed explanation, I'm sure that will get a response. I have been a new car dealer (not BMW) for many years.

I would be P    ED if I heard that from MINI... Although I'm afraid I might... ASK-MINI had it listed 'at port' 4 days after it was unloaded. And my dealer said it should take appx a week for to get to them after it hit port, and unless they work weekends, they've got 2 days to get it to my dealer before they make a lier out of them.. I'm not happy....

I have had a similar experience. My MINI arrived at the Distribution Center in NJ on August 7...and has not moved from there yet! Everytime I call my dealer I get a different story. Even though my MINI wasn't recalled, it is also being "repaired" for some sort of problem. Nobody can tell me when it will be here. The best my dealer can do is put a rush on my car-supposedly it has a status of 1 now, which is top priority. I'll believe it when I see it.
