wondering if anybody has same problem.
i brought mine to dealer coz it's making whirl sound on low gear everytime i pressed gas..

they said i need to replace the transmission..
but it's only a 2003 car.. wonder if anybody has same problem.. or know anything bout it..
maybe there's a recall?

I had the same problem only when I backed down....it was a $42.00 main bearing in the tranny. mini had to get it from Germany. By the way the dealer did not work on it...they only will replace it . Ron

 

How many miles are on your MINI?

 

My dealer replaced my manual tranny couple month ago just before my warranty expired. Yes, they replaced the whole thing!
FYI, my MC had about 43000 on the clock, I went in dealer complaining about a squeak noise from clutch pedal and other little things; received a call from MA few hours later telling me they fixed noise but also found metal shavings in my tranny oil. Well, the MA asked if they could keep the car a little longer and they'll replace a new tranny.
What happened to my tranny? I had no idea, MA thought problem was due to heavy driving (NO!!!) or other wears, however my clutch still had a lot of life. Anyway, I was told that they are not allowed to fix/rebuild tranny in their shop, they could only offer a new (refrb?) one.

Hopefully you still have warranty!!! If not, some dealers are willing to do the "good wish" or whatever they call it, meaning they'll bill MINI-USA half of the bill or something. Before you ask for it, make sure you do your homework and show the dealer 03 tranny has known problem!
Do a search, there are a lot of info. regarding older tranny! and good luck!!

 

Has anyone had a problem with going into 5th gear (or any other) and it making a metal rubbing against metal noise?

 

i had my MCS 04, at 45K replaced the transmission + clutch a month ago. I had a squeak noise in the morning or when the engine is cold. I dropped off my car a night before so they can check when the engine is cold...

when i went back the next day, they replaced the clutch and transmission under warranty.

 

Anyone had any issues like this with a 2002???

 

I have an 03 and I hear the whirl sound too. I turned the radio off...listened, and realized it was the AC, somehow effecting the sound, which seems to get louder when I accelerate. It sounded bad...

I just turned off the AC, and the sound stops completely....

Try it just to make sure, but it may just be a fan or something. No problems yet!!
