R50/53 CAUTION!! Windshield replacements...
When getting your windshield replaced, be sure to let the installer know that the two A pillar side covers (the black trim pieces that run vertically on each side of the windshield) are screwed on. Do not attempt to pull up and off, or they'll break the screw eyelets on the plastic flange of the cover. Since the guy was unaware of this, he of course, broke them. Luckily the dealer has it in stock and it will be a matter of days for the glass company to coordinate with MINI to get it.
When I had my windshield replaced, the installer re-used the green plastic one time clips under the black cover. Needless to say driving on a very windy day about a week later, the black cover broke off, scared the crap out of me!!! Of course, repaired in a day or two but Jeeze!!!!
Just had my windshield replaced due to the stress crack about two weeks ago. During the commute to work I lost the trim piece to the passenger window pillar. The dealer mentioned that they had seen this before and it was due to the factory tightening down the screws too tight causing stress cracks in the plastic. Looks to me like the green snaps were re-used rather than replaced which made it weak at high speeds. They have ordered the part and they are replacing at no charge.
Anyone else lost these trim pieces after having their windshield replaced? This is the large, gloss black trim to cover the pillar between the windshield and the door.
