what does this button do?

Located on the back of my steering wheel, on the left spoke. There are the skip/tune buttons that go up and down...but in the center there is a button that i cannot figure out what its function. It is in the same location of the button that controls the Source on the right spoke...any clues? or did MINI just put it there to entertain me for hours?

Possibly, but no, I think it's similar to the 05+ steering wheel with the Multi-Function Steering Wheel. If you don't have the handsfree kit you'll get 2 spare buttons, they are on the steering wheel but they have no use. Possibly the same for the MINIs prior to 2005. Just a thought! Did you check the owners manual?

It's either the Oil Slick or the Ejector Seat - I can't recall off the top of my head. The Missile Launcher and Rotating License Plate switch is hidden under the front carpet for some odd reason...

Oil slick, that would show those pesky tailgaters

yeah, and it pretended like the button didn't exist. it referenced every button but that one. I've pretty much figured out that it has no purpose in my car, but would still like to know what normally goes there. A button for handsfree bluetooth seems like a good idea.

Like a sexy woman, sometimes when you push their buttons, nothing happens.

There were rumors that it might change CDs in the changer if so equipped, but they were unfounded. Chalk it up to symmetry, and only having to produce one set of buttons instead of two.

You CAN make it actually perform a function, but that requires the purchase of a module from Mike at www.newministuff.com and something for it to trigger.

Couldn't find it on the web site. Found a aftermarket stereo mute function.

I was told that it locked out the stereo controls. Like if you push it, you have to use the wheel controls and not the ones on the actual stereo. I heard this long after my 04 was gone though so I never got to try it out.

It never did a darn thing for me.

It's the ejector seat, but you need the sunroof option and the CIA pack for it to work.

It does nothing. When I first test drove the car, in early 2003, the sales guy said it would be part of the Bluetooth package when theat came out. That turned out to be false too.

On my 04 if I press and hold it will change the display from the station to the song title.
After I installed my XM direct now when I press and hold it goes to the Genre and then scrolls through them automatically. Then I press it again when I get to the Genre I want to listen to.

This must work for the stock Sirius Sat radio then as well correct?

if i remember correctly the left side was supposed to be used for the cassette deck...but i would wire a rear mounted oil slick...or maybe a set up for the passenger that drives their head into the dash....we can call it the idiot button for when they make an idiot remark about a mini!

It was for the Bluetooth/Hands free phone for 02/03 models, but that took so long coming to market it was by-passed in later models.

The button serves no purposes now other than amuse you.

I would think so. The XMDirect is just tapping into the sat part of the stereo. It's not that useful since it is so slow to respond, but it amuses me in traffic.

It tightens up the downtubes and keeps them from jiggling.
