R50/53 Great Britain Euro License Plate Question

Hi All-
A quick question to those that might know (perhaps the British contingency here on the forum?)...
Are the GB Euro license plates still in use and legal there in the Great Britain....or have they been outlawed? Had heard somewhere that they had been, and that everyone must revert back to the standard white (front) and yellow (back) license plates when registering their cars. ....something about Tony Blair rejecting the use of the Euro Dollar (and perhaps membership in the EU???).
