MINITOR's new toy
The trike looks great, MINITOR! I'd love to go for a ride on the back of it some day!
Max, lighten up...start your own thread about Ducatis, or something.
BTW, I'm moving this thread from OT to Off Topic :: Autos...closer than "standard" OT.

I'd give my opinion of it, but MaxN has already done a good job of expressing my sentiments exactly (and since when can't you say you don't like something?). You have lost your mind. Call me a grumpy old man, whatever you want, that thing is an abomination. Its sad to see someone work so hard on a MINI, put all that money into it, and dump it down the drain for THAT thing. I was hoping to see a lotus or an M coupe or something. If you're gonna get a trike, at least get one thats ungodly fast in a straight line (like one of those trikes I've seen with a chevy small block).
And I like riquiscott saying "at least this one has front brakes". To that I would respond. . . BARELY. I think the pedal car I had as a kid had bigger brakes than that.

frankly, I put them in the same category (those are worse definitely, but they are all vehicles that I would be ashamed to own), so I feel my use of the word is appropriate.
This is the only trike I could ever own and not be ashamed of, since it is actually performance oriented

http://www.go-t-rex.com/trex.asp?nav=en-us
notice how it has the two wheels IN THE FRONT, as the front is where braking and turning occurs, the spindly fork and lack of an adequate brake doom the OP's trike to a being a cruiser only, with no real performance asiprations other than MAYBE a drag strip, as turning isn't really an option.

Okay, you're a grumpy old man. So am I. That shirt you're wearing is ugly and I have the right to tell you so. Now I'm off to find someone with an New Beetle and tell them they were stupid to buy one. I'm within my rights. :impatient
The only things that would make that more rediculously awesome would be long upswept fishtail pipes, a big king and queen seat and a rigid frame. But, things like that take away a lot of rideablilty. Freakin' Sweet!
the difference between those scenarios would be that the person with the New Beetle that you are seeking out to insult didn't post pics on a mini forum and say "I'm selling my MINI for this". I'd consider what you propose to be mean, (although well within your rights if you feel a need to do so). This, not so much. Feedback, although not explicitly asked for, was implied, if he didn't want honest feedback, he should have said so. . .
I think that was at least in part, my point
As for trike experience, well, how about this ?

Not me driving but I have driven it, and chased it around a track

Secondly, my commute is awful and driving the MINI is not all that fun in bumper to bumper, so I made a decision to sell the high maintenance cost MINI, and to get a low cost low mainentance traffic friendly automatic Japanese vehicle (still undecided on what), as well as the new toy seen here. Together including insurance I will be saving hundreds of dollars a month, which is a very smart decision for me.
Thirdly, has it ever occurred to you that not everyone cares about going fast? I have never had much opportunity to drive fast with speed limits and all, and am not interested in racing. For me, the MINI was purchased mostly for looks, though cornering is fun. So if you would like to buy something that goes fast in a straight line, go right ahead and enjoy yourself, but do not think that that is what everyone wants. (By the way, V8 trikes are not fully insurable so were not an option)
Lastly, as said previously, with such a light vehicle and the braking surface area from the 2 rear wheels as wide as they are and rear disc brakes, front brakes are not needed, and many trike riders do not have or use their front brakes. I think that the drum on this one is mostly cosmetic, or was possibly put on just to pass inspection, but I do plan on eventually upgrading to a front disc when I upgrade my front wheel, though unecessary.
Some of you really do need to lighten up. I will miss a lot of you happy helpful and friendly folk when I no longer surf NAM, but I won't miss all of the jerks here looking for something to gripe about and trying to boost their egos.

So, the MINI that you bought, already built, no longer meets your (perceived) needs. BFD. Like you had anything to do with the building of Minitor. You bought it as is. Have you done anything to make it different? Didn't think so.
Enjoy your "grown-up" version of a Big Wheels; while the rest of us laugh at you for being a dork of the highest order.

Feedback can be insulting when worded too harshly:
scenario 1:
I notice you have a New Beetle. What do I drive? I have another remake of a famous car, a MINI. No, I didn't consider a New Beetle because the MINI was designed to be what the car might have evolved into had it not gone out of production. I see the New Beetle more like a retro car. What do I mean by that? Well, that they took the style of the old body, then figured out how to make a front engine car from the space they had. To each their own.
scenario 2: (you)
"You are out of your mind...that thing is an abomination... " You could have bought a MINI for that but "you dump(ed) it all down the drain for THAT thing."
In other words, your "feedback" makes you sound like just about everyone's ex-wife.

To the OP, enjoy it - too bad I didn't know you were looking for a trike, my father in law should be selling his pristine Harley trike soon.
And if you state requires it, don't forget to get your motorcycle license and all the gear that will protect ya

you and what max said is going to be child's play.
jk
i think that's a great idea to have a reliable AT j-car and have another
ride for fun. i do the same (my 06 civic is built in Ohio), and it's been
pretty good so far.
Considering an 02 Civic SI hatchback - I always liked the look and half the price of my MINI and almost as fun. Sadly reliable and automatic are my top 2 priorities, with looks and MPG coming next. Possibly an xB too. For me fast and performance are perks, not necessities. Shoot, now they are really gonna flame me.

super practical, hugely reliable and quite a lot of fun - they handle amazingly well for the size/shape and lots and lots of fun can be had in them - expecially on the track - you really should try it. Lots of space for hauling bike bits too Considering an 02 Civic SI hatchback - I always liked the look and half the price of my MINI and almost as fun. tell you the truth, ive had civic's as commuters since 1990.

90, 04, 00, 04, and now 06. the current gen is by far the most comfy.
They're fun to drive. (Highly recomend cruise control though. The new xB's have it)
have you considered a mazda3 for your japanese economy car? I'm obviously kinda biased (since I drive one, my wife is the one who owns the MINI), but they are excellent handling/braking cars that are a blast to drive and look quite good (check out my gallery for some pics of mine, and hopefully you'll agree that they can look good). Also, you can get a much newer one (probably an '04) for the price of the Si. Also, if you want some cargo space, the hatch is quite roomy. btw, I'm more of a handling person myself, I only said you should get a trike that hauls ***** b/c cornering will never be a trikes forte, and it might as well perform well at something (although if its just a cruiser, than it serves its purpose well).
I regularly get ~30 mpg in my 2.3, the 2.0 can get even better gas mileage, and they can be had for very cheap, even new (even cheaper used). If you do go used, make sure to stay away from the 4 speed autos (the 5 speed autos they use now are a lot better, and return much better mileage).
Sorry if I offended with my comments, I just gave my honest opinion of the trike (and trikes in general), that I would never even consider something like that given the emphasis I put on handling in my vehicles, but what I think of it shouldn't really matter to you anyways, what matters is if YOU like it.
