200K for any car...

My 2 buddies And I were talking and came to an interesting discussion. You have 200 thousand to spend on any car. The motor can be hand built, but the physical car body can't. One said the Aston Martin DBS, from "Casino Royale". He loves the suede dash. I said 911 GT2. I'm crazy enough to put snow tires on it and drive in the winter. Another dude said the Ariel Atom. If you don't know, watch this:

Any input?

I would never spend that much on a car. Most of the cars I lust after you could probably get for less than a fourth of that. Not much help, I know...but it is input.

For me, it depends if the car has to be my daily driver or a summer/nice day car.

If it was a daily driver, I think I'd get an E550 with the all wheel drive.

If it was summer car, I'd want something from the 1930's, like a Dusenberg, Pierce-Arrow, Cord, Cadilac....if I could find one for under $200k.

An Ariel Atom is $200K? If I had $200K to spend for one automobile, I'd go with an Aston Martin...LOVE 'EM!

Ariel atom is useless for the street and only $80K

I'd say Carrera GT but also out of production ...

Does the car have to be current? If not, there is an entire world of cars to buy ... like an original Ferrari GTO

You can't touch one for less than maybe $6M

There are no $200K cars in this thread yet. A C4S is about $100K. Lambo less as well

I guess maybe aFerrari 612 Scaglietti fits in

I would buy this and have the engine modified into a twin turbo design.

What If I said a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder? I can Get one used for alittle over 200k. Orange County Lamborghini has a 2006 slightly used one that they are selling at special for $205k Which Is a great deal for the spyder.

Its hard to believe you can get a 2003 Murcielago for under 200k now. I saw one on ebay sell for 187k and it only had 7k miles.

The car dosen't have to cost 200k. Sorry, I should have said that. You can buy a car for a grand and put 199k into it. Can be of any vintage, no more than 200k, dosen't have to total 200k, no hand built cars. Motor yes, body or chassis, no. Well, may be the chassis, because Ariel has only 7 employees. Unless 6 are robots, those chassis are hand built. Probably.

no need to mod...R8 with V10 Gallardo engine will be avilable in 2008. They might also add twinturbo from the factory.

How on earth is the Atom useless on the street? The car is one of the fastest on the planet period! (with the 300hp engine) and the car starts around $40K which isn't bad for a hand built car....

Just curious as I just started looking at these and they look sick!

I just went to configure one .... $70K for a street version and no race parts.

Pretty useless for the street. I read nothing about a CAT or any emissions. I doubt I could even get it registered, not only because of emission but also lighting DOT standards.

NO top, No place to store anything ... thats useless for the street.

Great for the track, nice toy a good alternative to say an Exige S used solely as a track toy but not as a street car

IMO

OK- I see your point.

I guess what I am getting at is the fact that it is still useable. No top or place to store stuff doesn't matter to me. It is all about the fun of driving and enjoying it as a toy.

I have spent the past few weeks looking at another toy to add to the garage and I have been looking at the Elise as a fun car for every now and then. I was pointed to the Atom and that fits the bill for me. Something fun as hell to drive. Practicality means nothing to me and in SC I don't have to have the car pass any tests thankfully!

Time will only tell. I think it will be a purchase made towards the end of the year or early next year....

.
Having a CAT is federal law, not state. See http://www.scstatehouse.net/code/t56c005.htm

There are a ton of safety laws for cars in there.

Before I bought an AA, I would ensure that the car would, in fact, be allowed to be registered or you'll be throwing money away

Best of luck!
