SMARTCAR in VA?

Driving through Occoquan VA and spotted a Smartcar Fortwo, with VA plates. Not a promotional car or anything, either. How'd they do that? I thought you couldn't get them in the US yet

Cripes is that thing tiny! I love it!

Anyway, it is the first one I have ever seen in person, and it made my day.

I saw one in DC back in May - I was back there on business - saw it parking on Constitution Ave. Of course I didn't have my camera with me...

I see them occasionally in Ohio, Quebec plates though. Might be that you are seeing a Diplomat's personal vehicle, these boys aren't subject to the laws of the USA.

There is one that works here in Old Town Alexandria just a few builings over fron me. It's blue and silver if I recall correctly.

I mean the owner works here. Cars can't work.

There is a company called/named Zap that imports them and brings the to US DOT spec then distibutes them to a few dealerships. The closest one to DC is in PA.

I was wondering if DC would happen... I was reading the driver packet and the DC run was listed as "tentative". Plus, one of the SmartCar Cabrios were taken out of commission. In one of the other cities, someone took the roof completely down and it wouldn't go back up. They sent the car back to their HQ in NJ and they couldn't fix it (from what I was told). the cabrio roof was not as sturdy as the MCC.

There are two here in Charlotte at Beck MB. These things are very cheaply made. I sat in one and the quality is very poor. The plastics are very thin and cheap. They added foam padding to the glass top which makes headroom really poor for the larger folks. The seats are non-adjustable except for back and forth. I was very un-impressed!

The dealer had these marked up to $36,997 !!! C&D said the MSRP is $15K and even thats a rip-off... nothing more than a moped with fiberglass sides....
A huge thumbs down for the local MB dealer... Just another reason I would never own a MB

They are all over the place in Germany. I took this picture while I was in Stuttgart back in April. Check out the way these two parked.

I saw a burgundy one in the Central Park area of Fredericksburg early this summer. I was stopped at a redlight and he was making a left in front of me, and let me tell you he was gettin' it! I was surprised that thing didn't roll over!

Come to think of it the driving "style" reminded me of that of a MINI owner...
