To each his own. To me it looked the opposite of a "fresh" design. Very derivative and bland. It's no TT (or Mini), for sure.

The one I saw was painted in a dark purple metallic, which didn't help its case much...

Egad. It becomes more controversial with each post. I must Google "A3".

It's called "Venetian Violet Pearl Effect." Seriously.

Thanks. That photo makes it look hideous. I doubt that in 5 years the exaggerated grille will endear the car to anyone. Unlike the Edsel it will find it hard to straddle the aesthetic line between kitsch and camp. But perhaps it's better in real life. And Audi interiors are usually gorgeous.

Wow, what a bunch of Mini snobs. I think the car looks great and I know it drives amazing with the DSG and 2.0T. To each their own.

A3 coupe isn't available in Us, is it? I do not like 4 door ones.. (seen it few times) but I would hump that 2door thing down

I much prefer the 2 door version as well.

The A3 is nice looking - just happens to look like any/all Audis (except the TT). To me Audi sedans/wagons look like the same car in small, medium and large

I can see where that would take away from the specialness of any one version and make them all seem blander.

Jalopnik:

"And then there’s the fact that the A3 is ugly. It’s one of those cars where you walk around the side and say “Is that it?” To my eyes, the A3’s sloping rear roofline and awkward quarter glass make the miniature machine look like nothing so much as an upmarket cut-and-shunt job, cursed with Barbara Streisand’s schnoz. Although Audi’s probably saving the body mods for an S3 or RS3 derivative, something this homely needs a tattoo or twin pipes or something to say “You looking at me?” Either that or they should have made it a plain old one-box hatch and called it good."

something about that angle on the A3's headlights always reminds me
of this pos... really ruins it for me.

The new Audi design scheme is not for everybody. I personally like it better than the last series, which we had two of them. Great cars and fits in with not being obnoxious – at least to me.
Some Audi executive said that their Teutonic design was “reverse pretentious” – or maybe I read that in R&T, anyways works for me. We are getting another Audi soon – wife loves them, and she calls my Mini Pooper a truck suppository.
Like I love saying “a seat for every *** and an *** for every seat”.
Also, did you notice that the Mini has the same headlights as the Porsche 993? At least they copied a great car there.
I really like the Lotus Exige - and to some that looks like a guppy on land, so there!

Mixed feelings about the new Audi/VW semi Bugatti copy big nose look.

Read this and now I laugh whenever I see them

Jeremy Clarkson on the A6 Avant:

"Enlivened only by a radiator grille that somehow resembles George Michael’s goatee, it has about as much on-screen presence as the table on which Jack Nicholson and Jessica Lange cavorted in The Postman Only Rings Twice. You just don’t notice it."

You guys spend too much time in your MINI's, I think my A3 makes an excellent complement to the MCS. Here's mine near Lajitas in the Big Bend. That's the Rio Grande and Mexico in the background.
